I act as surgical first assist in the operating room to any surgeon within our service lines of General Surgery, Orthopedics, Spine, Vascular, Thoracic, Colorectal, Gynecologic Oncology, and DaVinci Robot-assisted cases upon request. I also perform daily post-operative rounding and follow-up with the attending surgeon. I am responsible for admission history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, and discharge summaries for all patients admitted by the attending surgeon. I evaluate patients in the Emergency Room and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon. I am also tasked with performing bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, and peripherally inserted central catheters when credentialed to perform such procedures.

As the battalion senior medic at the 400th Military Police Battalion, I assumed responsibility for 20 medical personnel spread across three military police companies. I ensured all medics were compliant in both NREMT and US Army TC 8-800 qualifications. I was charged with maintaining a 10% Combat Lifesaver active certification rate across the battalion. I also conducted platoon-level care such as administering routine and emergency medical treatment to Soldiers, educating soldiers on health threats encountered in the field, and maintaining the training and readiness of soldiers in my section. I also held the duty position of Platoon Sergeant and was responsible for the accountability and safety of 70 Soldiers.

Saudi Arabia

I served overseas in Saudi Arabia where I managed a clinic tasked with the medical care of over 500 deployed Service Members and 1,000 permanent US Military personnel. I served as the direct supervisor to four medics, while overseeing clinic operations that included a contracted team of 3 physicians, 3 nurses, and 3 paramedics. As senior medic during the largest COVID-19 outbreak in the Central Command region, I worked unceasingly during an active community outbreak to prevent the spread of the virus and to ensure the proper care of symptomatic individuals. For my hard work and dedication, I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for distinguished meritorious service.

At Medstar Washington Hospital Center, I took an active role in the safety and improvement of hospital procedures. I participated on committees to improve patient “door-to-doc” flow and reduce wait times. As “unit champion” for splinting and ultrasound-guided PIV placement, I often engaged in certifying ED staff in these advanced procedures. I volunteered to be trained as part of the “Biocontainment Unit (BCU)” team to care for patients with highly infectious diseases such as Ebola and measles. As a skilled technician, I was also recruited into a research study to test an experimental wire-introduced peripheral venous access device.

I worked as part of an interdisciplinary team supporting an Oncology ambulatory care clinic. Our patients were treated by Dermatologists, Urologists, Orthopedists, and chronic pain management. I would greet and prepare patients for their scheduled appointment, maintain the examination areas, and coordinate patient flow. I also assisted with several outpatient procedures such as male uroscopies, bladder biopsies, venous access port removals, and abdominal paracentesis.
