This role covers the district's network infrastructure for all 6 locations throughout Glen Ellyn, IL; all onsite servers, both physical and virtual; Azure AD/Intune environment; backup infrastructure; and more as the primary contact, in addition to being the secondary contact for day-to-day support needs and the district's Google Workspace environment.Some major accomplishments from my first year with the district are:• Rebuilt the backup infrastructure from the ground up, introducing immutability and offsite storage• Completed a full inventory of all network switches, routers, access points, and firewalls• Upgraded firmware on all network switches, routers, access points, and firewalls• Segmented legacy /16 subnets into per-purpose /24 & /20 subnets and VLANs across all locations• Rebuilt the network routing to prevent improve throughput, efficiency, and segmentation• Rebuilt the network layout to eliminate almost all cross-building VLANs• Standardized all classroom switch configurations• Migrated all network switches, routers, and firewalls to use centralized authentication• Improved monitoring of network devices and servers to proactively identify and resolve issues• Eliminated almost all 1 Gbps connections between core switches, switching to 10 Gbps connections• Eliminated bottlenecks on wireless connections, increasing throughput from 30 Mbps to 90 Mbps per client

This role is heavily focused on maintaining, securing, and supporting the network infrastructure covering all 23 district locations throughout DuPage county. Large projects were completed through coordination with our localized support technicians and our district-wide network engineers. During the school year and between summer projects, my role also involved providing second level support and guidance to our support technicians.While not a complete list, some recent accomplishments or tasks of mine are:• Upgrade ~100 C3750X switches to C9300s and modernize the configuration on each• Configure DUO-powered MFA and RADIUS on all switches to remove shared accounts• Segment our legacy /16 subnets into per-closet, per-purpose /24 subnets and VLANs• Deprovision legacy (2008 R2) domain controllers• Implement both internal & external firewalls and clean up older policies• Implement Windows firewalls on ~120 VMs after reviewing documentation and traffic
