My corporate profile goes something like…I am Chair, Co-Founder and CEO of Eskalera, a San Francisco based technology company committed to elevating people, companies and cultures through greater employee engagement, productivity and growth, with a particular focus on creating more inclusive environments. I was the former head of Human Capital Management and head of Pine Street for Goldman Sachs and served as a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Partnership Committee. In my 19 years at Goldman Sachs, I worked in four different divisions – Human Capital Management, the Executive Office, Investment Banking and Finance. As head of Investor Relations, I was responsible for shareholders, debt investors, rating agencies and corporate governance engagement. Clearly, my career path has been varied and in many cases unpredictable. The one constant has been having passion for the work and passion for the people! My story goes something like…• Born in Chicago, raised in Atlanta• Son of an Irish Catholic mother from Minnesota and an African-American Baptist father from the South• Studied architecture and played basketball at Columbia University in New York City• Headed straight to Wall Street after graduation, and never looked back until...• I was lucky enough to meet Tom Chavez, and headed to the tech industry and the West Coast• And the luck continued when I spent time with Henry, George, Scott and Joe and joined the world of alternatives• Have worked at six different firms and had more than a dozen jobs over the course of my career• Ich spreche Deutsch – die Liebe lässt uns manchmal verrückte Dinge tun (translated: I speak German; love will make you do crazy things)• My wife and I were raising our wonderful “Afro-Bavarian” family in Montclair, New Jersey, but moved to San Francisco, California during COVID• I believe deeply in the power of both educational opportunity and storytelling, which is why I served as the Board Chair of Ron Brown Scholars and as the current Board Chair of StoryCorps• Few things are better to me than sitting on a southern porch, having a cold drink and listening to blues music with family and friends• I believe life is all about perspective, positivity, humor and service
