Led a team of 12 people within the Office of External Affairs and Communications and manage public engagement strategy, training and three festivals at the University of Cambridge, providing a service to over 100 academic departments. Other activity involved helping senior University officers and other departments better understand and support researchers’ public engagement throughout their research cycles and carer. Events (ca. 500 per year, mostly free) connected academic research annually with around 100,000 face-to-face public participants and reached a global audience via print, social, digital and broadcast media coverage. Evaluation strategies included Mystery Shopping in partnership with Cambridge BID and longitudinal impact assessment with social scientists from the Universities of Warwick and West of England (UWE, Bristol.) Training activities included structured courses, a series of technique-led sessions and workshops for research groups. Public Engagement Officer

This role was to devise, support, facilitate and evaluate centrally-led, or academic-generated, public engagement activities for the University of Bristol so they are accessible to an external, general, audience and create opportunities for dialogue between members of the public and the University research community. The scale of the activities ranged from around 100 to over 20,000 people. Examples of events were: topical debates and talks; the annual Festival of Nature; and supplying exhibits for the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. Invited presentations include locations across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Japan.
