As a Senior Planner I am predominately responsible for managing the pre-lodgement, assessment and reporting for complex development applications within Redevelopment Areas. In addition to this I also serve the Redevelopment Operations team and the broader organisation in undertaking a range of other activities:• Lead Planner on the Scarborough Project. Undertaking pre-lodgement engagement and design work with proponents and managing major development applications.• Legislative expert serving the Redevelopment Operations division and the broader organisation in answering queries regarding the Metropolitan Redevelopment Act, Regulations and the broader planning system and finding creative ways of using legislative provisions to create efficiency’s and foster good planning outcomes. • Other planning duties including policy formulation, responding to public queries and providing feedback on governance issues.• Providing leadership and mentoring within the Statutory Planning business unit.

Temporary assignment to assist the Minister's Office with the progression of the Planning and Development Amendment Bill 2020 and associated Planning Reform Package.

My role as a Policy Adviser relates specifically to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. Some of the key activities and achievements of my time in this role include:• Providing advice to the Minister and Premier on options for Bob Hawke College and the subsequent legislative process for extending the Subiaco Redevelopment Area to accommodate Bob Hawke College at Kitchener Park and facilitate the wider redevelopment of the Subiaco Oval and surrounds;• Providing input and advice on Planning Reform;• Progressing solutions to cross-portfolio issues in cooperation with other Policy Advisers on reducing red tape for live music at entertainment venues and micro-festivals/pop-up bars;• Accompanying the Minister to events and openings such as the opening of Yagan Square, the Scarborough Redevelopment and the commencement of the Inner City College. This includes being across all issues and queries which may arise and ensuring the Minister is adequately briefed on the project;• Briefing the Minister and providing advice on legislative responsibilities under the Planning and Development Act 2005, Metropolitan Redevelopment Act 2011 and subsidiary legislation; and• Engaging with Members of Parliament, other Ministerial officers, government agencies, business and community groups and key stakeholders on matters related to the Planning portfolio.

As a Planner at the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority I'm part of a diverse and exciting team of planners charged with facilitating the development of some of Perth's premier brownfield development areas. In my role I engage in a range of activities including:• Assessment and reporting on development and subdivision applications;• Providing advice, guidance and feedback to developers and consultant planners on the applicable planning frameworks and how they apply to each development scenario;• Contributing to the development of practical planning frameworks; and• Engaging with members of the public to enhance their understanding of town planning in general and how the planning frameworks impact them and the wider community.

As a Planning Consultant my key responsibility was providing support for Senior Planners and Associate Directors within the Planning Business Unit. As part of this position I was involved in a massively diverse range of projects at various levels. These projects range from development applications all the way up to local planning strategies and state-significant industrial projects.Some of the highlights in this position included:• Assisting the Department of State Development and LandCorp in detailed planning and rezoning for the Boodarie Strategic Industrial Area.• My involvement in the Latitude Industry Zone project, mostly in the area of developer contributions.• Securing approvals for grouped dwelling developments throughout the metro area.• Providing planning advice to a number of clients to aid them in securing appropriate sites for their business.

As a Strategic Land Use Planning I administered and managed scheme amendments from initiation to final approval. These amendments ranged from simple up-coding’s to complex industrial/commercial rezoning.I completed the assessment and reporting on several structure plans which ranged from simple rural guide plans to major structure planning for the Vasse and Yalyalup development areas.I worked with planning consultants to review detailed area plans at both Vasse and Yalyalup to improve lot yields and efficiency of the urban area and provide for more affordable housing.I have provided professional advice on planning matters including pre-lodgement advice toapplicants, briefings to the Council, presentations to the community and participation in reference groups such as the Vasse Development Project Group.

In my position at the EMRC I managed the implementation, including reporting and evaluation, of the Regional Integrated Transport Strategy in cooperation with Member Council representatives.Researched and monitored transport issues, developments, and opportunities to inform Regional Integrated Transport Strategy implementation activities such as the Department of Transportpublication – Public Transport for Perth in 2031.Reviewed and prepared submissions on Directions 2031 Sub-Regional Strategies, Public Transport for Perth in 2031, and the Capital Cities Planning Framework relating to land use and transport planning, considering the implications for EMRC and Member Councils.Provided guidance to EMRC and Member Council staff on planning and management of transport related regional projects such as the Gateway WA project and the Great Eastern Highway upgrade.

My first planning job really showed me what town planning was all about and the Shire of Busselton (as it was at the time) provided a wealth of opportunity for learning. I was constantly challenged and worked on a range of projects from basic demographics to development applications. I was also very fortunate to assist the Senior Strategic Planner with a number of scheme amendments. Most importantly my time in the position supplemented my formal education with practical experience.
