After proudly serving in the US Army, I worked in the hospitality industry while attending college. I quickly rose up the ranks at a local restaurant and was promoted to management. I loved working in the restaurant industry, but I knew it wasn't my future.My brother recruited me to help run his local courier business as a dispatcher and account manager. I immediately took to dispatching, thriving on the high pace, problem solving, and customer service aspects. Seizing an opportunity for career growth, I moved onto the logistics and freight industry. I quickly adapted to the larger freight and trucks using my previous experience and extensive knowledge of the city. I eventually worked my way up to Dispatch Manager. I loved dispatch but it still didn't feel right. As a dispatcher, I acquired a disdain for DOT regulations since they seemed to hamper my drivers and our ability to operate. I didn’t appreciate their purpose and was intimidated by their complexity. Like others, I mistakenly relied on “truck stop law” from my drivers and coworkers.Eventually, I realized there was a need for people that could bridge the gap between compliance and operations. Someone who could simplify complex regulations and correct common misconceptions and the stigma toward DOT compliance. I decided that I could be that someone, so I transferred to the Safety Department and became a DOT Compliance Specialist. That was a step down but turned out to be the best decision for me. It’s been over 10 years now and I admit that I love what I do. I’m able to share what I’ve learned through original training resources, on-site training, and great conversations. I’ve trained hundreds of drivers and supervisors who are now able to apply what they’ve learned to make informed decisions.Being compliant doesn’t mean you have to compromise profit and production. It takes proper preparation, increased awareness, regular training, a good maintenance program and, most importantly, top down "buy in" from the Team.Thank you for viewing my profile and reading about my history.
