I undertook many Software Leadership roles whilst at NDS/Cisco from technically leading small teams through to group and project managing large multi-disciplinary cross-site teams. I successfully delivered prototypes, productised solutions and support across several areas of the DigitalTV industry including middleware and on-line (www.locatetv.com), but predominately my focus was on “Headend” solutions that control, manage and deliver content metadata in broadcast, broadband and hybrid systems as deployed at many 10’s of business clients throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.

I joined a small team as a senior software engineer working on the software configuration and monitoring solutions (developed in C) for high performance racing control systems deployed in Formula One and other motor racing categories. I quickly progressed to team leader and then grew the team into a multifunction group working on both the software solutions and hardware interface devices, expanding our systems into road car applications and establishing close links with the Diesel Engine department at Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart. As Head of System Monitor development reporting to the CEO, I was responsible for a group of up to 30 engineers across four teams delivering into multiple customers, ensuring we delivered to demanding and immovable time-scales (e.g. Formula 1 races) and tight budgets.

As an undergraduate I successfully completed the Redifon graduate training programme during University vacations and during a gap year (sandwich course).As a Graduate engineer I was employed in the R&D department where I was responsible for implementing a number of projects, primarily in C. My main achievement was an 18 month project where I successfully designed and implemented a high-throughput digital signal processing solution running on a real-time operating system (pSOS) sampling live data and providing timely feedback to the operator. This included directing other engineers to produce a number of modules required as part of the design.
