Dane Webster is a PhD Student and aspiring physiological researcher within the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia. Dane employs a diverse research skillset in his investigations, specialising in quantitative gene studies, animal models and mechanobiology. After obtaining First Class Honours at the end of 2023, Dane began his PhD work in 2024 predominantly revolving around the paraspeckle and its architectural lncRNA NEAT1. In particular, the focus of his studies is determining the mechanistic involvement of these two nuclear structures in stress and disease scenarios in which he utilises numerous models. These models range from the animal, tissue and cell level to conceptualise mechanistic changes that occur when adapting to stress-related pathways of NEAT1 and paraspeckles. Alongside his studies, Dane works as a research assistant at The University of Notre Dame investigating modern public health issues such as homelessness and translatory research in improved interventions for AOD treatment. From a mixed background, Dane’s experience ranges from anatomy and physiology to the molecular sciences such as biochemistry and cellular biology, the sport sciences, and modern public health issues.
