At 331west, community engagement was at the core of our mission. We took great pride in curating a vibrant platform to showcase and support local artists, DJs, food connoisseurs, filmmakers, thought leaders, educators, and healers.We orchestrated a wide array of events and fostered meaningful collaborations with talented artists and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Constantly adapting the space to cater to the unique preferences and requirements of our community.As our tenure at 331west concluded, the owner transitioned back to his renowned Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant, "De Vliegende Schotel." Following our original vision, new owners took charge and successfully repositioned the space, giving rise to the remarkable "Oko - Cultural Cafe" in September 2017.

I was commissioned by Ultra Violet Performance Troupe for two unforgettable soundtracks. The first project took place in December 2006 at the esteemed Peat's Ridge Festival. I mixed and edited a captivating blend of my own compositions and works from other talented artists, resulting in an enthralling performance that left the audience mesmerised.The second unfolded in August 2007 during the Ice Skating Nationals at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. This time, I collaborated closely with my musical partner, Dale Garbutt, to create an entirely original 17-minute soundscape. The effort and creativity poured into this endeavour made it a remarkable auditory journey, elevating the performance to new heights.

As a sound engineer for the season performances of ‘Riot!’ I was required to be present for rehearsals as to both learn the musical cues myself and for the cast to also work with the sound. I worked alongside fellow composer Justin Wolthers who created the score, whilst I was responsible for the incidental ambience components as well as being the live mixer during the season, which ran for 14 days.

As Technical manager, I was required to reconfigure the on-air studio to suit TiN Radio’s needs. I was in charge of purchasing new and second-hand AV equipment and testing and installing said equipment. I was also in charge of setting up the TiN Radio pre-production studio in the ‘Octapod’ for TiN Radio’s expansion. As a Shift manager, I was required to sit in on shows with new presenters and helping them out when it was needed, mainly technical problems, or presenters not conforming to the on-air code of conduct. I was also required to help out with the administration duties and organising and filing of the database. As a Deejay, I had a weekly show which showcased local electronica, hip hop and more experimental musical works.

Breve stands as a dynamic collective comprising local and national electronic artists dedicated to pushing the frontiers of contemporary music.Founded as an electronic music collective, Breve initially focused on event management. Spearheading a series of successful events in the Newcastle area, I played a key role in coordinating smaller one-off gatherings and later contributed to the setup of supplementary 'stages' at larger outdoor festivals. The musical prowess of Breve artists, including myself, has led to regular performances at various venues along the east coast of Australia. Together, as a collective, we engage in recording, producing, editing, and mastering, fostering a collaborative environment that nurtures creativity and excellence. Personally, I have actively contributed to numerous releases, taking charge of producing tracks and albums.Moreover, I have been instrumental in crafting the design and artwork of several albums and EPs, ensuring our visual representation complements our exceptional musical offerings. To date, Breve has independently released close to 70 albums, EPs, and singles, with unwavering dedication, as our passion drives us to persistently explore new frontiers in this artistic journey.

For the This Is Not Art Festival in both 2005 and 2006, I was in charge of the Gigs/events portfolio. This was not without drama as I had to liaise with other coordinators who lived all over the country and we only met up once every six weeks. It was a very involved job which required not only to book the acts but to work out scheduling, technical issues and requirements as they came to hand. I was also in charge of securing the Audio Visual gear required for the festival and making sure that the artists booked were paid. I had overall control of the evening entertainment programs, and had to be quick to ensure it all worked smoothly. The highlight show in 2006 which included many overseas acts was the biggest show of the year at the Cambridge Hotel, one of Newcastle’s premier venues for live performances.

Throughout my tenure, I demonstrated expertise in the end-to-end creation of websites, utilizing Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Flash for designing sites, along with CMS programs like Etomite, Drupal, CubeCart, and Soho for interactive client sites. My responsibilities encompassed conducting weekly, fortnightly, and monthly updates for clients, executing site redesigns, and skillfully crafting logo designs and brochure layouts. Additionally, I took charge of creating compelling promotional material for both Newcastle Infotech and its esteemed clients.In addition to my web development responsibilities, I played a pivotal role in computer repairs, adeptly troubleshooting and resolving issues related to faulty parts, viruses, and system re-installs. Furthermore, I excelled in constructing tailor-made computer systems that precisely met the unique requirements of our valued clients.

I was employed on a short term contract with AAbrothers to do quality control of data and site testing on a large financial company’s website. I was required to troubleshoot and bug fix, as well as solving standard website developmental problems. I had to send corresponding data to the CRAA database and data match with test sample clients. The site went live once I had completed my duties.

For 4 years, around September to October I was involved with the This Is Not Art festival (TINA). I helped organise various arms of the festival during these years mainly concerned with the Gigs/events component of the festival. 2004 ~ I helped organise ‘Spidergrind 8’ which was a local showcase event featuring more abrasive and harsh sound artists as well as experimental and ambient artists in two rooms. 2003 ~ I was assistant Gigs Coordinator for the entire festival, my main duties were to liaise with the Artists2002 ~ I organised ‘Chilled Experiments’ which involved soundscape and ambient artists from around Australia, 2001 ~ I was the local artist coordinator, working with the Gigs coordinator to secure slots for local artists. I was also a performer and coordinator of ‘Century 21’, an event which ran continuously for the duration of the festival, holding performances during the evenings and workshops during the day.

Initially I worked only on Saturday mornings and my duties included cleaning and setting up for the day, testing and tagging equipment to be sent out on hire as well as consolidating hires returned and testing for faults. Later I was put on permanent part time and was available for setting up and manning PA systems at various events, usually either operating lights or Foldback systems. Occasionally equipment was returned faulty and I was required for maintenance; cleaning, replacing fuses or parts and soldering. At A1 Audio I was also involved with the installation team which installed PA and lighting systems permanently in some of Newcastle’s premier venues.

During my time at Soundworld, my dedication to musical knowledge played a vital role in opening doors of opportunity. As part of the team, I actively engaged in continual learning, ensuring a well-informed and knowledgeable staff. As the store operated on a daily basis, my main responsibilities revolved around seamless day-to-day operations.Three times a week, I efficiently managed stock transfers between stores, diligently tagging merchandise, and conducting quarterly stock takes. Dealing with both major label and smaller independent orders, I handled new stock transfers, carefully verifying invoices to maintain accuracy.A priority was placed on providing exceptional customer service. I adeptly managed customer orders, ensuring prompt notifications and secure reservations. Additionally, I took charge of processing returns for old stock, ensuring cleanliness and packing.To enhance the shopping experience, I arranged shop displays, creating an inviting environment for customers. Cataloguing CDs by number, I maintained an organised filing system. Furthermore, I handled the end-of-day banking and store closure.Despite the busy schedule, I occasionally relished moments of joy, exploring incredible new CDs while fostering a positive and enjoyable work atmosphere. My commitment to excellence and passion for music were evident throughout my time at Soundworld.
