I covered a variety of sports, mostly at the high school level (football, wrestling, baseball, basketball, tennis, softball, track, etc.). During the summer, I am the primary beat writer for the Lake Erie Crushers professional baseball team, which is a member of the independent Frontier League and plays their home games in Avon, OH. I usually cover things for them five days/nights a week, sometimes more. I've also covered professional boxing, professional drag racing, amateur golf and college sports (including Ohio State football) for them as well.

I have mostly provided The News-Messenger and their sister paper, The Port Clinton News-Herald, with high school wrestling coverage during the winter months. Specifically, I covered the Ohio High School State Wrestling Tournament every year for them since 2010. Since wrestling season has ended, the opportunity to contribute to their sports coverage hasn't really presented itself. But, I am keeping the door open for future endeavors and a future relationship.

Avon Lake, Ohio

At first, my duties included doing the pagination layout of the weekly Avon Lake sports section while also contributing a weekly column and stories to the North Ridgeville sports section (I also wrote stories for the Avon Lake section). My duties were changed in October 2009, and since then, I have strictly been a part-time contributor to the sports pages of both versions of The Press and their sister paper, The West Life (which serves Westlake and the surrounding West-side communities of Cuyahoga County and has since moved into The Press' Avon Lake office). I contributed weekly coverage of the Lake Erie Crushers professional baseball team, along with high school sports for The Press' five area high schools (three Avon Lake, two North Ridgeville) and West Life's seven area high schools. My position was eliminated due to budget cuts.

Sandusky, Ohio

I was in charge of a daily sports section of one of the better "smaller" newspapers in Ohio. I had a staff of three full-timers (including myself) and some part-timers and stringers. Along with my management duties, which included balancing the monthy correspondent budget, scheduling the staff weekly and monthly and dealing with customers, I still had time to write stories and columns and cover events. I was stunningly terminated in April 2009 for no real rhyme or reason, as was proven by Ohio Job & Family Services.

I did a wide variety of things for the Morning Journal. Specifically, I covered high school sporting events, with emphasis on wrestling, football, baseball and boys basketball. I also did layout and design the sports section on occasion. I edited copy when I wasn't writing and proofread the section. I also wrote weekly columns on fantasy football (during football season), and professional wrestling (from 1998-2004). I left to take a "promotion" of sorts, when I was offered the job as Sports Editor of the rival Sandusky Register.
