Managed a diverse team of hardware engineers (Electrical & Mechanical) in collaboration with Firmware/Software Engineers to develop Base Stations and Smart Street Lighting systems for domestic and international customers.

After a site-wide buyout of the Chicago BlackBerry Design Center by Wistron Mobile Solutions, I continued to lead the mechanical development team in the concept, design, and build-out of a variety of mobile, cellular, and consumer electronics products.

Managed and directed a team of Mechanical Engineers in the design and development of complex handheld consumer products from product inception to high-volume manufacturing.

Responsible for all verification and validation of BlackBerry products developed at the BlackBerry Chicago Design Center as well as leading an engineering team from product launch to end-of-life by driving cost reduction, yield improvements, and quality improvements.

Responsible for multiple sustaining engineering teams (Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing) to support high-volume mobile phone production, drive cost improvements, and solve yield issues.

Headed a 48-person cross-functional department through four direct report managers. Total budget responsibility was $9.5 million across two cost centers. Responsible for Product Test (RF, Mechanical, Reliability, Product Safety, HALT/HASS, and Failure Analysis), Configuration Management, PCB Design, Factory Producibility, and Calibration.

Managed a 22-person department providing engineering support (PCB Design, ISIT Support, Calibration, & Configuration Management) to all product development teams.

Created and managed the Mechanical Verification Laboratory for Ericsson mobile phones securing $2.5 million budget, hiring a 5-person staff, and fully implementing test functionality within the first year.

Directed the performance testing of automotive lighting systems managing a staff of five and overseeing all laboratory operations. Supported domestic and international customers such as Ford, GM, & Chrysler. Achieved A2LA accreditation (ISO 9000 & QS 9000) for the lab.

Responsible for the selection and design of test and ground support equipment for the T-45 Goshawk aircraft (Propulsion, APU, and Emergency Hydraulics Systems). Earlier work included the development of F-15E cockpit and jet engine repair training systems for the US Air Force.

Hughes Aircraft Company (Space and Communications Group) built the world's first geosynchronous communications satellite, Syncom, in 1963 followed closely with the first geosynchronous weather satellite, ATS-1, in 1966. Throughout the next three decades, the company grew to become a major satellite supplier capturing nearly 40 percent of commercial satellites in service worldwide by 2000 at which time the company was acquired by Boeing. The former Space & Communications Group is now integrated as a major business unit (Boeing Satellite Development Center) of the Boeing Defense, Space & Security Business Unit. While at Hughes Aircraft, I managed a 5-person engineering team responsible for ground support equipment design and manufacture for commercial and defense satellite programs including Intelsat VI, Leasat, and Magellan.
