Their messaging systems send over 1 billion messages per year.I joined MessageMedia with the intention of helping to grow the software engineering teams (currently 65 people) and transform culture to be more experimental and innovative whilst still supporting high availability (99.95% availability) software platforms.• Increased engagement of a team from 52% to 69% in 6 weeks with large increases in Delivering Value (80%), Mission (78%), Teamwork (77%), Fun (74%) and Learning (72%).• Established a vision, mission, goals and career development plans for team members.• Setup the measurement of success metrics for the team including Service Level Objectives (with availability and latency definitions), Opex vs Capex spend and BAU/Support percentage of work.• Mentored and promoted a team member to take on the Development Lead role to lead the team so that I could spend more time on strategic work across engineering.

MYOB service over 1.2 million customers with their largest products focused on accounting and payroll solutions.I originally started at MYOB as a Development Lead and focused on leading a team that worked on online invoicing and payments systems. My role quickly grew to take on a second team and shortly after I was promoted to the Development Manager role to lead a new initiative to uplift DevOps practices across all MYOB delivery teams.• Successfully established a new division designed to accelerate and improve delivery across all MYOB software teams.• Reduced the turnaround time for the acquisition of production SSL certificates from 3 weeks, to 42 seconds.• Increased the operational compliance across all MYOB’s production systems by 11% in one quarter.• Led the successful launch of Slack across all engineering teams, helping teams to improve collaboration and communications. Delivered an internal PR campaign to engage the engineering teams using humour and storytelling with a special finale given by the CEO.• Successfully mentored and coached leaders within my area to succeed me in my role and to take on new leadership opportunities.• Dramatically increased engagement and team morale through a servant leadership style. Coached engineering teams to successfully influence other teams to increase quality and innovation.• Led a team to deliver the very first production service in MYOB to utilise container services (using Docker and ECS).• Created the initiative, strategy and business case to move our containerised services into Kubernetes. This decreased the reliance upon software engineers to have in depth knowledge of the AWS platform, and gave massive leverage to delivery teams as complex operations requirements were actively managed and consistent across teams.

Stamptec is an IoT based startup bringing innovative technologies to the mining and transport industries. My role involved working with the founder and leading a team of developers to deliver the backend cloud systems for their first product MVP. Technologies used included Ruby on Rails and Elixir to communicate with hardware devices via a custom binary TCP protocols.

REA Group is a multinational digital advertising company specialising in property. They operate Australia’s leading residential real estate website, realestate.com.au.I consulted and worked with software engineering teams on a rolling 3-month contract for a total of 18 months.• My team architected and developed the first micro-service platform at REA, designed to synchronise data between a new cloud CRM platform and internal REA CRM systems.• Established new continuous integration and continuous delivery workflows in AWS and Docker reducing the time to deploy from 30 minutes to 5.• Helped to lead the development team on a difficult ERP replacement project, navigating complex architecture, many unknowns and tight delivery timeframes due to stock market reporting obligations.• Presented project achievements and improvements to 300 peers and business stakeholders.
