As Project Manager in the area of volunteering and work experience I was responsible for the Offer of Fair Access target area relating to students gaining relevant experience and employability skills through volunteering. In the capacity of Project Manager I coordinated the first series of 50 student placements in a new Community Hub initiative working closely with Newham Council as well as academic staff. I also coordinated with colleagues from Vanderbilt USA University the first international volunteering and peer learning programme partnered with UEL. This included securing service sites as well as extra curricular learning opportunities for both UEL and Vanderbilt students pursuing a career in public health.

As Project Officer I focused on the development of training opportunities for our students, sourcing and brokering volunteering placements and internships as well as overseeing all of our 75 external partner organisations and 400 student volunteers.A significant part of this role included the coordination of the Volunteering Module where I engaged the students on the module in finding volunteering placements and offered support during their 40 hours of volunteering. I also delivered lectures on the value of student volunteering and evidencing skills.I supported two academic schools with their employability and enterprise offer - this includes giving workshops, presentations and one to one support on CV advice, interview skills and application form guidance.As I have a background in art and design I have particular interest in this area and I am trained in giving portfolio guidance in applying for higher education and employment.The external liaison aspect of my role included developing and maintaining excellent links with external organisations to support employability based projects and training. This included large scale companies such as Barclays as well community based organisations.

As Widening Participation Officer I worked directly with colleges to support students in applying to university. This included helping students write personal statements, create portfolios and also guide them through the selection process. During my time in this role I set up the Compact Art programme which acted as an agreement between UEL and 8 art colleges and institutions to support students applying for art and design based courses within higher education. This included delivering workshops and sessions to develop their personal statement, portfolio and application forms. Within this role I also managed the Aim Higher target for a range of college based initiatives that I designed and tailored to compliment the curriculum. This included business, marketing and design based taster/achievement days where college students would visit the university to experience the university setting and also attend lectures and sessions linked to their area of study/interest.The representation at UCAS fairs and events were also a key part of my role, this included attending UCAS fairs across the UK and also recruitment fairs in the EU. I also delivered presentations annually at the Design Your Future Fairs on portfolio guidence and personal statements.
