Making the world safer by empowering women to fight back - my motivation and guide through life. Coming fresh out of university a film and photography geek, directing documentaries instantly gave me the chance to tell incredible stories of even more incredible women. I was able to work on photo and video journalistic assignments with UN Women and zenith magazine among others. My debut documentary WATERPROOF (prod. by Kloos & Co. Medien) about an extraordinary group of female plumbers fighting the water crisis in Jordan was successfully screened in the German competition of Dok.Leipzig 2019, IDFA Amsterdam and many more festivals globally. As a Martial Artist of almost ten years, the place where I would meet my soon to be business partner Sarah Alburakeh had to be the only women’s martial arts gym in the Middle East. Somehow we ended up in the same tiny town in Germany and connected over kickboxing and women’s rights. We figured out that it was martial arts that gave us three things we didn’t have before: confidence, strength and a feeling of safety. If it worked for us, why wouldn’t it for other women? Born was the idea of our startup chinkilla. Since then we have trained over 1000 women in workshops, bootcamps and meet-ups & designed and produced our own sustainable line of fight gear especially made for female bodies. Documentary wise, I am currently working on a doc series about women who decide to (literally) fight back against sexual violence and abuse. So basically, my life revolves around women’s rights, film, martial arts and various combinations of those three.
