About Dani Michie

I am a dedicated organizer, storyteller and community member. Over my 6 years of grassroots and professional organizing experience I have built a unique skillset which allow me to be nimble and adaptable to the varying demands of justice-seeking campaigns. In both paid and unpaid organizing opportunities, I bring a unique approach to organizing that centres relationships, trust and care. I am a skilled communicator with experience running digital and traditional media, telling compelling stories that help us build power and win. I have a proven track record of growing audiences, landing media stories, and developing strong messaging that can talk back to oppressive public narratives. I have had the pleasure of mentoring and training young organizers across many different movements, developing their skills and capacity to win campaigns that centre the voices of those most impacted. I am passionate about developing organizers to win for themselves, and de-centering the paid staff within a campaign. I have experience designing and executing strategic campaigns, managing teams of paid staff and distributed teams of volunteers. I have a wide range of campaigning experience, from electoral mobilization, to frontline solidarity and direct action. As a white settler, I am dedicated to showing up in solidarity with Black and Indigenous people, and folks of colour. I aspire to yield my privilege for good and work to build trusting relationships with impacted communities, while holding my own power and positionality. I know that systems of oppression like white supremacy, colonialism and capitalism harm us all, and my solidarity work with BIPOC communities is motivated by a mutual investment in our collective liberation.

Digital Organizer, Strategic Partnerships And Training Lead
Change Course Jul 2022 - Present
Change Course is a grassroots, youth-led non-profit supporting grassroots organizing on campuses and in communities, targeting fossil fuel funding banks, and advocating for climate justice and Indigenous Sovereignty. Together we are demanding an end to all financial support for the fossil fuel industry.I manage Change Course's communications; including social media, digital, internal and external comms and earned media. In addition, I work closely with our Campus Organizing Leads to support students on the ground with mentorship, coaching and training opportunities. I develop programming and education materials to strategically upskill our organizers for the Banks Off Campus campaign and beyond. I am currently leading work to build stronger relationships of solidarity between students and workers on campus, deepening our class analysis and showing up for workers impacted by the climate crisis. Our connection to workers strengthens our movement, broadens our base and lends power to both the climate and labour movement. I deeply believe in the power of narrative and am invested in telling the story of why work is a climate issue and every job is a climate job.
