The Head of Operations (Renewables) is accountable for the operational management of Cennergi’s project companies (SPV’s) in the Eastern Cape, starting with the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm (TCWF) near Humansdorp and the Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm (AE01) near Bedford. The position reports to the Cennergi Chief Operations Officer (COO) and the two SPV Boards of Directors. The purpose of the role is to establish, manage and grow the Cennergi operations capability and capacity in the Eastern Cape to ensure asset performance of the wind farms and future renewable projects in the area while ensuring optimized operations for maximum stakeholder benefit and sustained profitability.

Cennergi is a 50:50 JV between Exxaro Resources and Tata Power of India. It is an independent power producing (IPP) company which aims to create a balanced portfolio of projects across the energy value-chain, focusing mostly on sub-Saharan Africa. Its operating model covers the identification, evaluation, development and financing of energy projects in a Project Finance environment, ensuring project execution from financial closure to commercial operation, with asset management support to end of asset life whilst providing full business management services to its own affiliated companies.The Head Technical Services position manages a variety of service and support functions across the the value chain. The Cennergi value chain includes business development activities (project development or acquisition to financial closure), project execution and operations.Summary of Key Responsibilities:- Project management, IT, document/record control, project cost control;- Environmental permitting and licenses;- ISO Management Representative for triple certification in an integrated management system with 9001, 14001 and OHSAS18001;- Multi-disciplinary engineering management, resource analysis, grid access and compliance, technology landscape and selection;- Facility, site and office management;- Management Services Agreement (MSA) Manager, responsible for Cennergi's SPV's (inlcudes commercial, governance, risk and compliance measures, company secretarial services, legal, contract management, financial and management accounting, project management, treasury, project finance, insurance, HR, technical, SHEQ, economic and enterprise development and procurement activities;- Operations management, asset management and reliability engineering expertise, asset data acquisition and control, operations and maintenance (O&M) lead on all value chain asset needs (physical and contractual).

As Operations Excellence (OE) Advisor a key responsibility included ensuring that Sasol business units across the globe have appropriate understanding of operationally excellent practices, supported by systems to sustainably contribute to Sasol’s aggressive growth strategies. The application of key improvement methodologies in all the operations units (including aspects of Lean and Six Sigma) to affect relevant practices enabled sustainable business growth and performance. The position was responsible with a team to develop OE standards and expectations, designed to ensure the standardization of global Sasol businesses in respect of operations methodologies and improvement approaches. Summary of Key Responsibilities:- Enable 17 strategic business units (45 businesses) to sustainably improve operations through applying suitable improvement methodologies and practices, realizing R2.5bn in benefits;- Assist non-operational Sasol entities to develop and standardize on their own appropriate practices and improvements integrated with the operations value chain;- Established a Sasol view of excellent operations through development of process models and relevant processes;- Enabled these businesses to establish a view on their current operational performance and practice by leading and supporting OE reviews, external benchmarking and facilitated exchanges of best practice (this included ensuring Sasol best practices are globally competitive and relevant);- Developed the Knowledge Management standard for the OE process;

As Plant Manager and appointed Workplace 16(2) under the OHSAct, the primary responsibility was for the safe production of 250 000 tons/annum of Titania Dioxide Slag and 145 000 tons/annum of Low Manganese Pig Iron, tapped from two 36MW DC Arc Furnaces. The Smelter section included two DC furnaces, feed systems, FFE ilmenite pre-heaters, Howden Off gas distribution plants, Theissen Gas cleaning plants, a desulphurisation and Metal Treatment facility and several auxiliary plants supporting the process.Key Responsibilities included: - Operational management of the Furnaces and Metal Treatment department;- Ensuring compliance and adherence to all SHERQ requirements in line with company goals and regulatory environment;- Contract and key account owner of numerous commodity, services and consumable contracts;- Financial responsibility of an annual operational budget of R500 million and a capital base of around R2.5 billion;- Operations Owner of several large capital projects;- Management of 125 people from Process Controller to Senior Plant Specialists;- Development and utilization of new and current systems to ensure continuous effective production.
