R42 institute fellowshipLectures on neural networks covering how they work and assessing their accuracy, applications, and social impacts.On the protein folding team, I coded educational software about how neural networks can predict protein structure, using python with Pytorch. I was unfamiliar with this programming language before starting the fellowship.Extra features were built on top of my work and superbio.ai was spun out of the projectUniversity workI coded shell files that launched simulations of the secondary and tertiary structure of viral RNA, using SLURM on a supercomputer, to identify similarities and differences in their structures, for 4 different families such as Coronaviruses. These could potentially be used to develop drugs that are effective against the whole family in case there is an outbreak of an unknown disease. I analyzed the algorithms used by the simulations and found the dynamic algorithms had much higher accuracies than the neural networks because they didn’t have viral RNA in their training sets, causing overfitting.
