Ever since I was thirteen, I’ve read grammar books for fun. While this doesn’t make me a lot of fun at parties (people's eyes glaze over when I start talking about verbal aspect particles in Chinese), it makes me passionate about world language education and its power to change lives. It goes back to when I was thirteen. My grandma brought a Hebrew grammar book back from her trip to the Middle East as a souvenir for me, and I was hooked. Since then, I’ve leveraged my love of language learning into a career helping students experience the world-altering process of learning a second language. I’ve become fluent in Mandarin and Spanish, proficient in Italian, Ancient Greek, and Ancient Hebrew, and polite in Arabic, Japanese, and Modern Hebrew. I’ve taught world languages for over sixteen years (Mandarin for eight years, English for seven years, and Spanish for two). I’m proud of how I apply my nerdy love of grammar to help my students succeed. When I tell my students to a specific strategy to learn Mandarin, they know that I've tried and proven that method myself. As a result, my students do things like pass the AP Chinese Language and Culture test, achieve intermediate to advanced proficiency on the ACTFL scale, and study abroad in Taiwan. My students also comment that I’m a high-energy educator with an overabundance of passion for sharing my love of language learning. I'd be thrilled to share that passion with you.
