• Provisioned and deployed an evaluation (small-scale) HPC cluster based on RIKEN’s Fugaku supercomputer hardware.
• Performed an overhaul of some of the traditional IT services hosted by the institution, in particular the e-mail (and mailing-list) services.
• Cooperated with our User Support team in order to resolve issues that went beyond their scope or required administrator access to the clusters.
• Operated the in-house private cloud where traditional IT services, as well as VMs for select users, were hosted.

• I was responsible for a small Internet hosting provider’s IT infrastructure. Our primary products were web server, e-mail, and file hosting for a user count in the low thousands.
• As a consequence of the infrastructure I inherited being quite ancient and in rather dire need of replacement, by the time I left the company I had replaced, overhauled, or redesigned virtually every part of our tech.
• Designed and implemented a migration of all of the site’s virtual machines, which were running on a legacy OpenVZ-based virtualization system, to more modern (and in-kernel-tree) LXC unprivileged containers.
• Migrated the site’s storage from SAN-attached iSCSI volumes to locally-attached ZFS storage pools with offsite dataset replication, to significant performance and operational gains.
• Engaged in user support (and limited consulting) tasks.

• Leveraged my experience with low-level systems work to develop internal libraries and systems for a startup whose product was centered around refurbishing, cataloguing and tracking the (new) lifecycle of old PCs.
• Relieved the startup’s main developer (software engineering profile) of infrastructure administration duties, which, for lack of other personnel, had been his responsibility up to that point.
