About Daniel Aston
After a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I got a taste for programming and sought out a career in software development.Hence 25 years professional programming experience, mainly with C++/C#/.NET on Windows. More recently I've gained experience developing on Linux, and AWS.As a fun side project, I wrote my own GUI framework in C++. This proved a massively useful learning exercise in various programming patterns and techniques. I used the framework to build two app's, which were published to the official Microsoft Store.Other personal side projects have involved TLA+ and WebAssembly.

Achievements:Design and creation of a syntax-checking utility for an in-house scripting language, using "Backus-Naur Form" with Flex/Bison, implemented in a Notepad++ plugin dll. Created a binary-coded decimal type to handle numbers with more precision than standard floating-point types, with quick conversion to string and a reference-counted PIMPL for efficient copy-by-value.Developed a fuzzy-search box custom control, implementing the Levenshtein algorithm. This used Boost intrusive containers with custom memory allocation and parallelism to enhance efficiency. Refactored code which processed XML source data to an ITERATOR pattern, enabling JSON source data to also be processed by the same client code.
