I take my role as a professional nerd very seriously. When something grabs my interest, I make it my mission to learn as much about it as I possibly can, then spread my excitement about it with others. I pride myself on being an instinctive educator and a natural storyteller, and my superpower is the ability to make people fall in love with new ideas and experiences. At a party, you can probably find me deep in conversation about something I'm passionate about: craft beer, musical theater, Bach, or the best undiscovered local restaurants. My very first love was music, and I followed that passion all the way through a PhD in Musicology. As a full-time scholar, I finely honed my skills as a communicator. I am compelled by the challenge of "translating" big, abstract ideas into the simplest, most accessible terms possible. On one hand, working as a professor and researcher gave me the opportunity to share my love of music and learning on a daily basis. On the other hand, though, I could never shake my unease with the elitism of higher education: I longed to reach a broader audience.Though my change of career paths may seem abrupt on the surface, in reality software development has an organic extension of my previous one. Building clean, elegant applications has simply provided me with a brand new way of expressing abstract ideas in simple terms. Moreover, my experience as a scholar has proven invaluable to my ability to learn new technologies, frameworks, and workflows quickly and efficiently. I'm seeking a developer position in that will allow me to help others by using my communication and critical thinking skills to provide concrete solutions to large, amorphous problems. I'm enthusiastic about the opportunity to continue bearing my professional nerd torch with pride!
