Marine Programs at INLOC focus on the key areas of: Reef management and control, Indigenous Land and Sea Country; Indigenous Rangers; Environmental Program support; and Aid and Development.As the Marine Programs Manager I oversee the on water delivery of the Cairns based Crown Of Thorns Starfish Control Program and the Traditional Owner Partnership Crown of Thorns Starfish Program. This position manages more then 60 staff and 20 trainees as well as wide range of marine assets. These programs deliver on the ground results in ecosystem management and professional development opportunities for young Traditional Owners. Crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks cause significant damage to coral reefs across large spatial scales, and are one of the major causes of coral decline across the Great Barrier Reef over the past 40 years. The damage from crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks adds to the damage from other major causes of coral decline — tropical cyclones and coral bleaching events. Out of these three major causes of coral decline, crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks are the only one that can be mitigated through direct local management.The Traditional owner Partnership Crown of Thorns Starfish Program is a collaboration between, The Great Barrier Reef Foundation, the Reef and Rainforest Research Centre and INLOC. The Program delivers training to Traditional Owners within the Great Barrier Reef catchment in the three key themes of Conservation and Ecosystem Management, marine operations, and leadership, within a COTS management context.

In addition the Program charters three live aboard dive vessels and their tenders to operate as management platforms on the reef. This program fits in within the INLOC Groups key focus areas of: Reef management and control, Indigenous Land and Sea Country; Indigenous Rangers; Environmental Program support; and Aid and Development.

Solomon Islands Biosecurity Development Program. This program aims at delivering capacity building activities for Solomon Islands Biosecurity, industry and programs.

The 10 month programme includes the following:• a suite of training, including emerging leaders training• workplace rotations/placements allowing me to experience the diversity of work undertaken by the department including areas such as trade and market access, biosecurity, sustainability, agricultural policy and information services.• a major project with fellow graduates including a five day industry visit where I will meet with key industry stakeholders and provide recommendations to the department• excellent networks including the allocation of a buddy and an executive level mentor • ongoing training, development and career opportunities • a graduate alumni programme and access to the department’s executive level graduate champion.

First rotation for the Department of Agriculture. This rotation gives access to policy, science and management of Commonwealth and international fisheries. Additionally there is particular emphasis on briefing and informing both Ministers and Assistant Ministers and organisation of meetings between industry stakeholders and government.

Single month research assistant role in coral reef ecology. During this stint I was required to scuba dive and think critically whilst collecting scientifically valid data.Additionally this position gave me the ability to work with and communicate with local PNG people in the area. Due to the third world status of these communities this was often hard but extremely rewarding.Data collection was conducted over several reefs from slope through to the flat done on both scuba and snorkel for a PhD chapter.

Woodlawn Bioreactor. Barramundi farm is a research facility that utilises heat from the bioreactor to heat fish farm water. General hand in the farm doing day to day work as well as stock take and wholesale. Further work was undertaken in the land fill site such as gas monitoring and leachate sampling.

Working in conjunction with prominent scientists in achieving the best scientific results. in charge of setting up the lab for experimentation to take place. In charge of purchasing and organising the construction of equipment for research.

Research diving monitoring the population of Spotted Hand Fish in the Derwent river, Tasmania. This was performed annually as a non for profit activity allowing researchers to gather a greater amount of data for conservation and management.

Worked with controlled substances. Worked with a team as well as with other business in distribution of controlled waste as well as methods of disposals. Delivered and produced to large companies such as BHP Billiton. Organized shipment consignments and transport logistics.Produced a large quote for the removal and restoration of BHP Billiton Bell Bay site to coincide with regulationsregarding the controlled substances movement through Australia. Research into these substances was necessary as toproduce the most affordable and safest procedure as possible.
