•I began working in a 3 man gang, as a contractor for BT and Carillion Telent our main objective was the installation and maintenance of new and existing duct work across Merseyside and the North West. I soon progressed to ganger, leading a three man team in installing new duct routes. This involved reading dig prints on high voltage cables and high pressure gas and water mains. Other aspects of this contract included working closely with BT employees cabling and clearing existing duct work. I am currently still employed by Aztec who now holds a contract with Amey Liverpool on behalf of Liverpool City Council. Still ganger of a 2 man team we carry out both footway and carriageway reinstatements and maintenance works processed to us daily on a hand held computer device. All jobs require the highest level of Health & Safety and Risk assessments.

Raf Honnington

• I joined the Royal Air Force aged 19 as a Regiment Gunner. After completing a 32 week arduous infantry training course my job role would be to provide force protection around airfields and wherever needed. On arrival at my first squadron RAF Honnington I was soon placed on pre deployment training which involved learning new skills and acquiring additional qualifications. I deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan in August 2009 as a panther vehicle commander and field medic. Our day to day activities would involve mounted and dismounted patrols, QRF (quick reaction force) for American, Canadian, French and Australian Soldiers on the ground. Training and patrolling with the Afghan Army and working continuously with interpreters. I would also work closely with American bomb disposal, in the disposal of all IED’s found. After returning from a successful 7 month tour I was sent to a new squadron at RAF Leuchars where I was based for a further 12 months before deciding to follow a different career path.
