About Daniel Beck

I am a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing Technologies, RMIT University.My research is mainly on Applied Machine Learning, with a focus on healthcare applications. I am particularly interested in using Natural Language Processing in multidisciplinary areas. I also have substantial experience in Evaluation in NLP. My expertise led me to multiple service roles in the NLP community, including Program Chair for ALTA 2020, Tutorial Chair for COLING 2020 and Diversity and Inclusion Chair for ACL 2023.I am passionate about teaching theoretical subjects in Computer Science, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have taught courses in Algorithm Design and Computing Theory since 2020, including the creation of online content to address the COVID-19 restrictions during the pandemic.As part of the LGBTQ+ community, I dedicate a substantial part of my career engaging with organisations that foster inclusivity of minorities in AI. In particular, I am part of the Queer in AI collective and I had the honour of giving a keynote during their workshop at IJCNLP 2020.
