About Daniel Bednarczyk
As Director of Education of Slide Ranch, a nonprofit educational farm, I manage all phases of the education department. This includes maintaining program budgets, onboarding staff members, and developing curriculum. Our mission is to provide education to underserved school districts in the Bay Area on sustainable, organic farming practices through experiential learning in the garden and around farm animals. To do this, I improved and structured the activities we provide into curriculum that aligns with Next Generation Science Standards and created 5 new programs that do the same. This increased the number of students we serve by 60%, approximately 1000 students. These changes made our programs easy to deliver and execute for the teachers that I train and allowed us to move towards more manageable overnight and multiple day programs. In addition to these new standard school programs, I work closely with the head of Marin Country Day School, a K-8th partner school that we serve to provide weekly education to their students. Outside of the general school season, I manage a summer camp that serves over 500 students. This balance of programs helps me create and maintain a steady budget and track student data and demographics. As with most practices in environmental education and science, change starts with a community. In this role, I work and live onsite with my staff in a community dedicated to stewarding indigenous Coast Miwok and national park land as a park partner of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. I put these goals into practice by co-chairing the Program Innovation & Equity committee of Slide Ranch where I lead meetings with our Executive Director, Board President, and community members once a month to help improve the inclusivity and accessibility of the organization to all Bay Area residents while still providing new, cost-effective programs.I have been a leader and educator in multiple states and in different types of organizations. Now, I am looking for an organization where I can establish myself and create a community of learning and growth.
