About Daniel Bell Lcgi

Emergency service professional working full time as a Detective Constable in Surrey Police. My role sees me investigating serious and complex crimes, supporting victims through the criminal justice process and seeing cases through to court. This can take months, sometimes years to achieve, and throughout I continue to support those victims and witnesses to ensure they receive the standard of service they deserve. I also hold a voluntary position as a Defuser within Surrey Police which means I help to deal with post incident treatment of officers to help them come to terms with some of the horrific and traumatic incidents they've dealt with.I previously spent several years working as an initial response officer responding to 999 calls and then following up the investigations from the moment I attended all the way to court. I'm passionate about solving crime and supporting my victims throughout my investigations. In addition I also held voluntary positions as a Police Cadet Leader with Thames Valley Police and as a Community First Responder for South Central Ambulance Service. I also volunteered at Bracknell and Wokingham College on the Uniformed Public Services Department helping to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of emergency service professionals.

Detective Constable On The Criminal Investigation Department

Current

Staines-Upon-Thames, England, United Kingdom

My role includes investigating serious and complex crimes, many of which can take months or even years to investigate due to their complexity. This includes traditional crime types such as aggravated burglaries, arson, rapes, serious assaults, fraud and robberies amongst others. My role sees me attending the scene of such crimes and providing investigative guidance and decision making at these scenes. I then investigate these matters all the way to the conclusion of the investigation. This involves gathering evidence and assessing it, interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects, case file preparation and maintaining an open mindset during enquiries. A big part of the role involves building a rapport with victims and supporting them through the investigation to the conclusion of the case. This can be particularly challenging with vulnerable or intimidated victims and indeed witnesses.

Learner Detective Constable On The Domestic Abuse Team

Staines-Upon-Thames, England, United Kingdom

6 month secondment to the Domestic Abuse Team as part of my learner detective portfolio. My role includes investigating cases of domestic abuse including both intimate and non-intimate domestic situations. The role is divided into two parts; investigation and safeguarding. Whilst every domestic offence requires a thorough investigation it may not always be possible to prosecute an offender, quite often the safeguarding actions are more important than the prosecution. This may be because the victim is not ready to assist Police with a prosecution or may be too intimidated to do so. In addition there are sometimes not as many investigative opportunities as other offences for example there's often no CCTV available or independent witnesses for domestic offences. As such a lot of my role involves short and long term safeguarding of victims of abuse and their families including children so that they feel supported to move on from the abusive relationship when they're ready. Domestic abuse is a very complex area of crime and each and every case is unique therefore the investigation into each offence is often also as unique. Once investigation and safeguarding is completed my role includes taking cases to court to prosecute offenders where possible. The role also involves a lot of partnership working with Surrey Social Services, domestic abuse charities and other involved parties to ensure the appropriate safeguarding is in place.

Police Constable On The Northern Burglary Team

Staines-Upon-Thames, England, United Kingdom

6 month secondment to the Burglary Team.My role includes being part of a small team who review burglaries for the Northern Division of Surrey Police covering Spelthorne, Runnymede and Elmbridge boroughs. The reviews help to identify patterns of offending as well as providing advice and guidance to investigating officers with regards to Positive Lines of Enquiry. The role also involves following up on identified suspects for burglaries and trying to locate and arrest them as well as building cases and taking offenders to trial. In addition, being part of a small unique team gives me the opportunity to tackle burglaries and try to reduce them through my own initiative. This has led me to introduce the daily Burglary Bulletin which is sent out across the division to all uniformed departments showing them where the burglary hotspots have been for the last 24 hours on maps allowing them to undertake targeted patrols of those hotspots to increase the likelihood of catching burglars on scene, reducing burglaries through high visibility patrols and reassuring the public that we take burglaries seriously in Surrey Police by providing an increased Policing presence.
