A successful JCS event is made up of several scenarios, delivered by TfL and it's partners. When JCS are run effectively, children move from sessions about travel - delivered by the London Transport Museum - to scenarios delivered by the police, fire and ambulance services. During the day, children learn a wide range of skills that prepare them for the transition to senior school. These include:Fire safety skills: how to prevent a fire and how to escape oneHow to avoid gangs and the dangers of knife crimeBasic first aid skillsInternet safetyHow to travel safetly on London's transport network.My role involves overseeing the JCS programme on behalf of The London Transport Museum. Building relationships with key partners, including: Metropolitan Police Service; London Fire Brigade; London Ambulance Service; Blue Cross; the RNLI; and Local Government, specifically road safety teams and community engagement teams.Supporting and coaching all local co-ordinators, that look after the JCS at borough level, and work with them to find ways to increase attendance each year and keep the programme relevant and engaging for pupils. Implementation of new schemes into boroughs where it’s not currently running: working closely with key partners to find suitable venues, select relevant scenarios and communicate with local schools.Secure and onboard appropriate venues for the scheme, making sure they have the space to support the scheme as well as been easily accessible to as many schools in the borough as possible.
