Certificate 3 in drilling operations and 13yrs in the drilling industry split 3/10 over exploration and production respectively. My safe and professional approach to my work is something I take great pride in. I don’t chase numbers, I chase quality. A 1000m shift is not really a 1000m shift if you’ve got 300m of redrills. I started my career in mining a little later than most but hit the ground running. Reverse Circulation (RC) became a quick favourite and 12 months after starting as a green drillers assistant I was promoted to trainee driller and then promoted to qualified driller 12 months after that. Due to downturn in the coal sector I moved my focus to production drilling and spent the next 5 years at Bulga Coal learning and honing my skills on SK series production drills. I left Bulga on good terms to accept the challenges set by Mt Arthur South to get their drill program on its feet and meeting targets. Excellent recruitment and open mindedness to new ideas by the entire team has brought that program not only up to standard but to a point where we are leading the world in the development and implementation of CATs new autonomous drill rigs. I was fortunate enough to be included in CATs advertising and media releases for their new drill line up and also to be invited down to Tomago to showcase the Remote Operator Station (ROS) for the ‘big wigs’ that had travelled to see their new developments. Looking forward, my aim for my career is to secure a permanent long term position and to continue to lead my crew, my pit and the drilling industry forward until retirement.
