Working as a Senior Engineer, on a contract basis, providing additional process engineering expertise to the existing team in the Falkirk office. The role involved plant design, process safety assessments, commissioning, and process modelling for a range of renewable, petrochemical, food manufacturing and pharmaceutical customers. Significant projects undertaken within this role:• The EPC development of a Glycerolisis Plant for a large biodiesel producer. Daniel’s role included design of process equipment, development of the control philosophy and commissioning plan, and also site commissioning and handover. • Design of vessel pressure relief devices for clients in the oil and gas and whisky sectors.• Design and commissioning of plant modifications and expansions for petrochemical companies.• Process safety assessments for whisky distilleries.• Development of a control philosophy document to document the BPCS operation and interlocks for a large biomass ship to rail transfer station

As a Principal Process Engineer working in the Thermal Energy Team the aim of the role was to grow and strengthen AECOM's thermal generation and bioenergy offering, looking at greater involvement in the LNG, CCGT, AD, Biofuels, Biomass and energy from waste markets. The role included project management and business development responsibilities. Significant projects undertaken within this role:• Owners Engineer for the development of a small scale anaerobic digestion plant, employing gas to grid technology, processing a mixture of wastes and crops.• EPC Management for the development of a LNG fueled power station in Malta.• Other work undertaken included technical advisor roles, due diligence assessments, independent certifier, feasibility studies, market assessments and logistical analysis.

The role involved working in the Waste Strategy team and closely with the Process Engineering Group across a range of renewable energy and waste projects. As Senior Consultant I was responsible for project managing a range of projects at one time. Significant projects undertaken within this role:• Owners Engineer Team for the development of a 5.1MW Anaerobic Digestion Plant in Teesside processing a range of waste materials. • Owners Engineer Team for the development of a 4MW Anaerobic Digestion plant in South Africa.• Project Manager for the a material drying feasibility study used to inform and assist with the development of the Heat Plan for a proposed gasification plant.• Independent Certifier for an AD plant assessing plant operating performance.• Other work included technical and financial due diligence studies, feasibility studies, logistical analysis, and HazOp and COMAH assessments.

My role has been to facilitate the development of the renewable energy industry in Scotland. This has involved working with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop legislation and tackle barriers inhibiting growth in my various sectors of responsibility.The role has involved lobbying government; organising events; working with various bodies to develop regulation, policy and financial incentives; working with media; recruiting members; participating in many stakeholder and steering groups; giving lectures and presentations at various events and universities; engaging and distributing relevant information to stakeholders; development of new projects to generate additional revenue for the company and to benefit the wider industry; and representing the organisation at many numerous events and functions. Notable stakeholder group membership: FREDS Heat Group, Renewable Financial Incentives Stakeholder Group and The Woodfuel Taskforce.

This was a KTP scheme between Glasgow Caledonian University and Fyne Homes, where I was employed to project manage the development of a plant to produce biodiesel from waste cooking oil. The aim of the project was to make Fyne Futures (a subsidiary of Fyne homes) more financially sustainable.Specifying the most suitable system involved researching the biodiesel production process, site visits, a biodiesel training course, laboratory work, examining legislation, and consulting with SEPA. I then produced a full plant design based on the knowledge I had gained. In the short term a pilot plant was purchased and high quality biodiesel has been successfully produced and utilised. A business case was produced and a funding application was submitted, a large scale plant has since been installed.Other tasks undertaken in this role:Lecturing to the Energy and Environmental Engineering MSc class; supervising student projects; a mini project reviewing sustainable key building materials and practices; a project looking into developing a Combined Heat and Power system; and involvement in the scoping for a communal biogas facility on the island During the project I was based at the Bute Recycling Centre and gained a greater understanding of the recycling business. This has also given me a great insight to the waste management industry and the economic and social issues related with the sector.

I was responsible for approximately 20 bartenders, receiving deliveries and ensuring payment to suppliers. Tasks included ordering inventory, hiring and training staff, cash-taking, accounting, bartending and the bar maintenance.
