About Daniel Bowler
Trained as a criminologist and sociologist (M.S. and B.S. respectively), my studies have focused on crimes of exploitation with particular dedication to hate crime, white collar crime, and gendered violence. Major influences include Sutherland's Differential Association Theory and Jackson Katz's understanding of normative hyperviolent masculinity. While not the core reason for these interests, living as a queer man in the south means I have skin in the game when it comes to addressing these issues.I find myself at a curious intersection in experience, bringing together extremism research, investigative work at the state level, academic and popular media savvy, and photo & video creation expertise. My ideal role takes an active role in addressing systematic challenges while using a person-first approach; less speculative work, and more time in the community listening to what those affected say they need.
