Relocated from Montreal to New Jersey to lead the finance team of newly acquired US and Asian subsidiaries accounting for approximately two-thirds of the corporation’s revenue. Team comprised of over 40 people including five direct reports i.e. Corporate Controller – US Operations, Credit Manager – US Operations and three divisional controllers. Highly involved in information architecture and implementing of new systems that supported the need for easier access to accurate and timely financial information. Business advisor to the Presidents of the 2 North American business units. Key liaison with corporate office in transition period following acquisition. Oversaw compliance with corporate accounting procedures, policies and practices in order to ensure adequate internal and external financial controls. Designed and provided financial reports to top management. Managed the preparation and consolidation of US subsidiaries financial statements as well as a variety of additional financial, statistical and cost reports. Provided certification to corporate office and external auditors. Analysed operating and financial performance, identifying methods to improve organization’s performance. Ensured compliance and accuracy for all reporting. Enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of department resources through utilization of technology and developing/recruiting resources and managed US operations treasury.

Member of the Management Committee; directed a team of 8 people responsible for Finance, IT, Human Resources and corporate affairs. Actively participated in strategic planning and operations. Managed financial and operational reporting to the Board of Directors. Presented a thorough financial and operational review to the Board of Directors resulting in the launch of a strategic planning exercise, which included a turnaround plan. Actively participated in the development of a three-year strategic plan. Implemented a computerized monitoring and control information system of trade allowances including measuring profitability by product and by client.

Member of the corporate team, responsible for the consolidated financial reporting for the group comprised of nine (9) operating entities. In collaboration with the Treasurer, prepared and presented financial information to the Board of Directors. Implemented a process to consolidate international financial information (Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland and Germany). Ensured liaison with Controllers of various entities and performed operational audit of subsidiaries.

Actively participated in formulating, implementing and monitoring a highly successful restructuring and turnaround plan resulting in savings of over $6 million, mostly recurrent. Improved working capital by $3 million by reducing long outstanding receivables, accelerating regular collection and focusing organization on excess inventories. Introduced profitability measurements by clients and products which directly impacted marketing/sales strategies resulting in improved profitability. Restructured department to provide analytical assistance to marketing and sales departments. Instrumental in investment and divestment projects – assessed strategic business fit, identified and quantified synergies and savings, prepared pro forma financial statements, designed integration plan, assessed purchase/selling price and conditions, presented project to stakeholders, assisted in negotiations and led due diligence process. Led project team mandated to select and implement fully integrated ERP software and subsequent migration to more recent version. The $1.7 million project, which included review of key business processes, was realized within budget and delivered on time. Renegotiated co-packing contract with major client securing long-term business while increasing profitability and streamlining conditions.
