· As an accounts assistant my role is to assist in the completion of accounts and other services for the many clients of the firm.· Monthly I complete the VAT returns for several limited companies and sole traders of varying turnover.· Following these VAT returns I complete the draft accounts for many of these clients as well as other sole traders and limited companies that complete their own VAT returns or are not VAT registered.· I usually submit the VAT returns to HMRC on behalf of my clients; however, this is changing to using software with Making Tax Digital.· To complete these I use the software Kashflow, Sage and Microsoft Excel for the input of information and calculation of VAT returns. For year-end accounts I use IRIS to post accounts using double entry to produce draft accounts. These are then passed on to other team members to check and calculate any tax for a meeting with the client.· Typically, I add purchase invoices and sales invoices to the software, any credit card statements and bank statements and reconcile both. Following this I must match all purchases and sales to the bank and provide creditors and debtors lists going forwards.· We work together as a team to ensure that everything is calculated correctly, and the process runs smoothly as a unit. This enables us to combine our knowledge to provide the best possible level of service to our clients.
