Elected to serve a four-year term as a Town Council member for Mount Pleasant, a town of 100,000 residents near Charleston, S.C. I was the only non-incumbent elected out of a field of 8 candidates.

Founded a volunteer citizens group to educate voters about a $50 million Recreation Referendum on the ballot in November 2022 to create and expand parks in Mount Pleasant, SC. We created a website and social media. The group raised enough funds for newspaper ads, signs, postcards to likely voters and digital ads. We rallied volunteers (and six of nine Town Council members) to earn media coverage, speak at community events and to wave signs at key intersections and at every school in the community. The referendum passed by 700 votes, 51 percent to 49 percent. In 2015, a similar referendum failed 52-48.

Served as a top-level advisor to a five-county district attorney and his representative to the media, constituents, non-profits and governmental entities. In addition to heading up public and media relations efforts, my role also included managing efforts to increase the office’s revenues, grant-writing, strategic budgeting, process improvement, project management, procurement and the implementation of new MIS technology.Highlights:Developed and wrote grants and proposals that resulted in more than $1M in re-occurring, annual funding.Served as director or deputy director of projects totaling more than $2.5 million. This included a domestic violence team that has increased conviction rates by 50 percent in four counties, a special court that provides intensive treatment for juvenile offenders, a major crimes prosecution unit that focuses on career offenders and the implementation of GPS monitoring of defendants who are out on bond or sentenced to house arrest.Headed up our strategic budgeting team and worked to secure additional funding from local, state and federal stakeholders through both a comprehensive lobbying effort and grant-writing. This increased revenue by 80% in four years and stabilized and modernized a chronically underfunded agency.Developed the office's first website and strategic communications plan as the office shifted to a community prosecution model.Pitched stories and provided information to local, regional and national media outlets to gain more traction on important convictions, court cases and initiatives.Improved the organization's relationship with the public and key stakeholders, resulting in the district attorney running unopposed in the 2012 election.Prepared and designed numerous publications, reports and articles for crime victims, governmental entities and constituents.
