This is my step father’s business that he has run for over 20 years. There are many transferrable skills that would be useful for accounting work such as;- Organizing and prioritising jobs in order of importance or to complete work before deadlines.- Planning and preparation is key to any type of job. - Showing initiative when problems arise that need to be solved in order to complete the tasks at hand. - Inputting sales invoices and credit notes onto SAGE accounting software.- Creating new customers and suppliers and updating current customers and suppliers on SAGE accounting software.- Logging and processing expenses occurred.- Connecting and growing strong relationships with customers and suppliers.- Answering and dealing with queries over phone and/or by email.Working as a labourer can be very challenging and physically demanding which I enjoyed but would love to test myself in a new environment, where my knowledge would be beneficial to my employer and colleagues.

I enjoyed working in customer service, in such a well-known retailer where I built up skills to progress to supervisor role. After my time working there, I had learned a lot and progressed quite quickly, this was also when I was studying my AAT accountancy course. I started off as a customer service assistant and as I progressed to supervisor my duties changed and I took on extra responsibilities. The transferrable skills consisted of; - Managing employee relationships. - Handling of money from the store’s safe.- I sometimes handled monthly payroll.- Filing of all delivery notes, invoices and credit notes.- Answered any customer queries over phone.- Month end procedures. When working within customer service for a while you gain great communication skills and learn how to deal with different personalities with customers and colleagues. This is a valuable skill to have whether working in Sainsbury’s or as an accountant.

I volunteered to work in one of the biggest charity shops in the U.K “The British Heart Foundation”, and I loved having the chance to give back towards such a great cause. I wanted to work here to gain vital experience with customer relations and understand more about retail and the charity itself. - I feel that the communication skills learned would be great for most jobs even for accounting work as they would be dealing with customers too. - Responsible for the petty cash float of £200 in the cashier, reimbursed daily.- Dealing with cash sales.- Answering telephone calls for customer queries.
