I have always had a love for problem solving and engineering, from my earliest days building dams across streams, and towers with Lego (my first nickname was ‘Danny Duplo’).2002: Master’s degree in civil & structural engineering from Sheffield University -->2003: joined Binnie Black & Veatch in Chester, working on successful flood risk management projects from concept through to construction (roles included engineering manager, project manager, site supervisor, resident engineer and UK Coal client manager) -->2015: moved to AECOM, where I led on the Port of Immingham Outline Business Case (successfully obtaining approval for approximately £5m in FDGIA funding) and went on a 9 month secondment to Natural Resources Wales as Project Executive -->2017: rejoined Black and Veatch (now Binnies, part of the RSK group), with highlights including working closely with Galliford Try on the Our City Our River scheme in Derby and Burton Flood Risk Management Scheme, and solving problems for Natural Resources Wales as a consultant or client (while on secondment with the Asset Performance team).2022: joined NRW permanently as Senior Engineer in the Asset Performance team looking after the rivers of mid Wales.
