The Lichfield Garrick are delighted to announce that Daniel Buckroyd will be joining the team as its new Artistic Director in winter 2022.Daniel has been CEO and Artistic Director of Exeter Northcott Theatre since 2018, having previously led Colchester Mercury Theatre and New Perspectives Theatre Company. Mark Wright, Lichfield Garrick Theatre’s Chair of Trustees, announced the appointment by saying: “We are delighted that Daniel will be joining us at the end of the year and leading Lichfield Garrick Theatre as it embarks on the next chapter of its evolution. Daniel brings the experience, creativity, and vision we need to progress Lichfield Garrick’s future and deepen our levels of engagement with the community.”Daniel has overseen a period of significant artistic and business success as CEO and Artistic Director at Exeter Northcott Theatre, and will bring his considerable skills and experience to the development of the Lichfield-based venue and arts charity. Daniel also brings with him wide experience in directing, programming and writing, and extensive knowledge of touring, embedding work with schools and young people, and supporting emerging artists and companies. As well as attracting some of the best UK touring drama, dance, music, comedy and variety to the Northcott, Daniel has directed several in-house productions, including the farce, Bang Bang!, by John Cleese, which toured nationally after opening at the venue; a digital production of Brecht’s Antigone during lockdown; and the theatre’s 2019 pantomime, Beauty & the Beast, which he also wrote. Before leaving Exeter, Daniel is looking forward to directing this year’s pantomime, Robin Hood.Daniel Buckroyd said: “Through its first twenty years, the Lichfield Garrick has established itself as one of the leading venues serving audiences in the West Midlands, with its mix of the very best touring performance and brilliant home grown shows.
