Environmental Scientist

Current

Fairfax, Virginia, Us

As an Environmental Scientist as Dewberry, my primary job responsibilities include leading and assisting projects relating to environmental consulting with a number of fields such as transportation, site-civil development, energy transportation, solar, and more. A primary responsibility in this role is to serve as a field lead conducting stream and wetland delineations, stream and wetland habitat assessments, vegetation monitoring, and species surveys. I write technical reports detailing the findings of field studies, and utilize various mapping software (such as ArcGIS, Auto CAD, and Microstation) to create maps depicting project specific data. I prepare permit applications regarding the Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Protection Act, as well as various state and local ordinances. I conduct Threatened and Endangered Species and Cultural Resources reviews, coordinating with federal and state agencies to ensure that project impacts to sensitive resources are minimal. I advise clients on ways to minimize impacts, environmental mitigation, and environmental restoration/preservation possibilities on projects. Conduct pre, on-going, and post construction monitoring of projects to ensure that impacts stay within permitted areas. In addition, I help create and track budgets, manage tasks related to environmental efforts, and mentor lower level staff to ensure they are growing within the company and as a professional.

Ecologist Ii

Bellaire, Tx, Us

As an employee for RES, my primary responsibilities were to lead field efforts for projects regarding wetland and stream mitigation / restoration, wetland delineation, and other aspects of environmental consulting. I have been trained in wetland delineation and am familiar multiple regional supplements of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wetland Delineation Manual. As a leading delineator within my department, I helped create budgets, coordinate with clients, and ensured field staff had all necessary equipment and knowledge to successfully complete their tasks. I managed the mitigation monitoring tasks for numerous environmental mitigation and restoration sites; ensuring that all necessary data was collected, reviewed and analyzed, and that technical reports were written and submitted on time and within budget. I worked directly with project managers to address any problems that may arise within these projects. I worked with the wetland and stream designers completing site feasibility assessments, collecting baseline data, environmental monitoring, geomorphic and hydrologic monitoring, and report writing. Part of this work included interpreting aerial imagery to find potential sites for restoration projects. Doing this, I gained a fundamental background on the Rosgen and Natural Channel and Floodplain Stream Restoration design methodologies. I have participated in numerous species surveys such as fish shocking, benthic macro-invertebrate studies, turtle surveys, bat mist netting, and other species surveys as needed. I conducted routine data management and analysis on environmental mitigation and consulting projects, wrote technical reports, and assisted in environmental permitting regarding Section 401/404 of the Clean Water Act. Lastly, I participated in work outside my “normal job responsibilities” to ensure that projects meet on time, within budget, and to ensure the company runs efficiently.

Supported senior level staff by independently conducting research, using peer-reviewed literature involving population studies, management plans and distribution and population trends of species and/or any other wildlife-related studies. Proficient in the use of peer-reviewed literature, online journals, multiple search engines, online libraries, technical manuals, and administrative guidance to ensure the Service maintains a “best available information” standard under the Act.
