Awaiting update to reflect my new role…. Previously:As Director of Secondary Education and Partnerships at Tower Hamlets Education, I help deliver our vision to strengthen collaboration among our schools to the benefit of all pupils in Tower Hamlets. I initiate lead on a wide range of projects, and this year initiated and designed a major continuous A level science project in partnership with STEM learning. I also work closely with other partners, such as the London South East Maths Hub, to maximise teacher engagement with high quality professional development. I’ve also worked closely with Christine Counsell and Liz Taylor to design incredible History and Geography curriculums from the EYFS to the end of Year 9. I work closely with admissions tutors from Oxford and Cambridge, and gave co-constructed pan-Tower Hamlets Oxbridge events. This year, we launched the Tower Hamlets post-16 prospectus too.As Director of Secondary Education, I work with secondary heads and their senior teams in Tower Hamlets and manage a team of education consultants. I am gradually building our capacity to provide high quality subject expertise, including through the recruitment of high calibre subject experts, including former HMI. Prior to joining THEP, I was one of Her Majesty's Inspectors. I held a number of senior roles at Ofsted. These included being the Principal Officer for subject surveys, leading and managing the work of Ofsted’s National Subject Advisers and, most recently, as a specialist adviser to the education policy team. In this role I designed and delivered high level evaluations of inspection practice which were used to inform policy development and training. I also managed the national oversight of school inspection quality, regularly presented findings and analysis to Ofsted’s national and regional directors. I represented Ofsted externally at various conferences and training events. I am a highly experienced inspector trainer. As an HMI, I led inspections of primary and secondary schools, including UTCs and Studio Schools. I also led inspections of a wide range of ITE providers, including university-led provision, school-centred ITT and other providers such as Teach First. I’ve worked as a teacher and leader in schools in very contrasting contexts. I have been nominated for national teaching awards and the high quality of my teaching was recognised in a national award presented jointly by the Historical Association and BBC History magazine. My work as a history educator was also recognised by the award of a Fellowship to the RSA.
