It Engineer

Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland

My work within INET was as a Frontline IT Engineer within a Managed Service Provider. I actedas the primary point of contact for customer calls, logging tasks within our ticket managementsystem. I undertook site visits by myself as I was insured on the company van to assist with therollout of numerous company-wide projects. Issues generally related to O365 issues, Datto Cloudstorage issues, file and folder recovery, troubleshooting issues with PC’s from Windows OS to Mac.Resolving issues within PBX system and with Client software also. One notable project was for a large multi-national construction company. Due to my educationwithin Cybersecurity I was tasked with conducting a Cybersecurity review for this business. I wroteup a review on cybersecurity issues specifically affecting the construction industry and what we cando to address/mitigate such threats. This review was brought before the C suite of the constructiongiant which lead to the finalisation of a contract for us to harden their business against cyberthreatsgoing forward.I gained experience with many tools within my time at INET, namely:*Watchguard Firewall/VPN*ESET endpoint AV*Office 365/Exchange/Defender*Topsec/Hornet Web filter*Kaseya suite software*Datto RMM/Cloud storage*3CX PBX phone system*NMAPExperiences I’ve valued in this role have been developing relationships with our clients andconfidence in my abilities within IT. Often I would show up to a site with limited information on anissue and would have to figure the issue out by myself often with clients anticipating the issue to beresolved quickly looking over my shoulder. I contributed greatly to streamlining our response timesin the company as well as facilitating project rollouts to client companies due to my greatadaptability within the role. Often representing my company face to face with the owners of othercompanies resolving pressing technical issues for them.

It Technician

Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland

I began working in Replentec after finishing my Security+ certification to gain some practical experience within an IT environment. My work was mostly systems administration for SME businesses. We also maintained the IT systems for Scania Ireland. The primary tools employed for this task were.•Paessler PRTG Network Monitor•Remote systems access•Microsoft Office 365 suite•Barracuda web email filterI maintained the day to day IT needs of over 40 SME businesses asides from the Scania dealers. Mostly this was using Active Directory to unlock user accounts that failed to sign out, assigning them permission to access user groups. I used password management systems and of course adhered to sound security protocols when dealing with customers and their personal information.Another element of this job was site visits, outfitting clients sites with IT hardware, Internet access points, server upgrades, patching cables and managing their phone systems, printers day to day. I configured new user computers with Windows 10 custom installs to adhere to our companies policies. For certain clients that were working from home I would configure their companies VPN connections to allow them to work from anywhere they wished.I got great real world experience working in Replentec and day to day we received additional training taking apart old servers or dealing with new problems that arose from our long list of customers. I was the primary person to answer calls, log the issues communicated and implement actions to rectify them.

Cabling Technician

Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland

Working as a cabling technician within Intel we were the last guys to touch the machines that generated millions in revenue for the corporation. What I did was supply heat-tracing solutions to Intel. My role involved working at heights in a harness as well as working in very confined spaces under machines. The role included:•Working with both electrical and data cabling.•Running ping tests between consoles.•Working within cleanroom environments.•Working around heat hazards/working at heights.•Operating under strict rules around Intel's industrial confidentiality as well as health and safety procedures.Working as a technician we liased with our international colleagues from different Intel sites to be adequately trained for the role and we learned about issuing console commands between consoles and a lot of the fundamentals of basic networking. It was very interesting as we were not just doing office work from a computer but working very physically also in one of the most technically advanced production environments in the world.Paired with all of this was a laundry list of mandatory training courses we undertook in subjects such as:•Intels data confidentiality/privacy policy courses.•Working at heights training.•Chemical environments training.•Electrical hazards training.•Cleanroom training.•Working in confined spaces training.I worked within the FAB34 (Bluejay) project which is coming online this year. My work here endedas a result of us essentially completing our work at the site. There was no longer a need for us since what I was doing was concluded so it was a matter of last in first out unfortunately.Though I am very grateful for the experience I gained as it will lend itself well into my career and I gained a lot of knowledge working here.

Thermoplastics Technician

Navan, County Meath, Ireland

My work with Future Plastics was in the programming, maintenance and running of mainly Thermoplastics Vacforming Machinery in the production of high quality aircraft grade products for customers such as Etihad Airways. I was also in charge of the scrutinous quality control on my shifts. In terms of value, we know how much the materials we worked with were so in terms of raw materials we were working with over €10,000 a night. Any of the slightest flaws, overheating, dirt on the tool could result in thousands of Euro in waste so we worked to a very high standard. I ran about 4 machines a night though sometimes more during a teammates lunch break. Ranging from Vacforming to CNC 5 axis machines and Saws. We mainly ran the Thermoplastics machines, troubleshooting quality issues throughout the shift, performing tool changeovers and addressing mechanical issues with clamps and laserguards. We worked to specifications of thickness of the material measuring with precise calipers and through visual inspection for any imperfection. I also assembled product if needed and organised the shipment of materials by the morning depending on what was needed of me on the shift.
