NTPs are the key building blocks for both DNA and RNA and have a wide range of biological applications. Not only did this role provide me with an outstanding hands-on experience in large scale organic synthesis, but it also honed my skills and abilities in GMP, GDP, presenting, critical thinking, and collaborating. I also had the rare opportunity to observe and assist in the development of the lab spaces and processes from the construction of the lab itself to performing large scale synthesis and formulation in iso 7 and iso 8 clean-rooms. I also focused heavily on technical document writing and review for translated protocols to be used in the manufacturing processes. I played a key role in training and assisting colleagues with hands-on techniques, and developed and presented educational material to help explain and clarify the organic chemical reactions, molecule interactions, and overall flow process for each synthetic process.

I am a 4th year PhD graduate student in the Frederich Group in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida State University.I have a strong passion for complex molecule synthesis and teaching organic chemistry to undergraduate students, both of which offer me an opportunity for innovation and creativity. Synthesis requires focus, logic, and resilience, and can be often met with failure. However, each for each failure, important data and information can still be extracted and used to solve the next piece of the synthetic puzzle.In 2018, the Frederich Group published an efficient 3-step synthesis of a 5-8-5 tricyclic ring system. The 5-8-5 scaffold that can be found in over 100 natural products(e.g., fusicoccins, ophiobolins, cotylenins), some of which exhibit sub-nanomolar biological activities against various cancer cell lines.My research focuses on a method for a diastereoselective photochemical [2+2] reaction, and efforts towards the asymmetric synthesis of a biologically active ophiobolin natural product.
