I am currently serving as the director of the newly formed Social Work program and BSW degree at Washington State University Tri-Cities in Richland, Washington. II have worked on interdisciplinary research projects on topics related to youth mental health, adventure therapy, mental illness prevention, kinship care, LGBTQ equity and inclusion, and e-mental health. My dissertation research was done on the use of experiential and adventure-based interventions used to prevent behavioral health difficulties in young people. My ongoing research projects are on the presence of institutional homophobia in religious schools of social work, mental health literacy measurement tools, adventure therapy education, and adventure therapy interventions. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience providing mental health and counseling services to youth and adults in nonprofit mental health organizations and educational settings. I specialize in the use of experiential interventions to support the development of coping skills and healing in young people and their families. I incorporate the use of outdoor adventure including hiking, meditation, and adventure into mental health therapy.
