Acting as a source of expertise in the Donor Carer role supporting the Regional Lead Nurse to deliver a safe and highly effective training strategy for clinical and non-clinical blood donation staff. Working across the South East region, independently and without direct supervision to ensure all responsibilities are seen to. Responsible for conducting cohort induction training of blood donation staff through a variety of teaching environments including online, classroom, simulation and on-session coaching. Ensuring that clinical and non-clinical changes to practice on blood donation teams are delivered effectively and are adhered to.Training of new Donor Carers covered NHSBT Mandatory Training, Customer Care and Customer Service Training, and training in all the required donor carer skills, including venepuncture, donor screening, welcoming, appointments, front of house, manual and people handling, and use of PULSE computer system to enter donation outcomes etc. Maintain all clinical competencies including venepuncture and donor screening in order to support the blood donation teams to carry out on session activities and to facilitate the direct supervision and teaching of learners.

Responsible for welcoming and registering donors. Screening donors for eligibility to donate and provide means for donors to give informed consent, whilst adhering to strict confidentiality policies. Refer to the Charge Nurse when the eligibility of donors is queried. Perform venepuncture, and prepare samples and documentation. Monitor donor well-being and provide post-donation care and advice. Prepare blood units, samples and documentation for processing. Identify and document non-compliance, escalating when necessary. Cleaning, calibrating and maintaining equipment. Assist in the set-up and set-down of equipment. Ensuring that performance is in compliance with all current SOP's.
