About Daniel Chau

I currently work for UCSF in the Recycling and Waste Reduction Program. UCSF is the 2nd largest employer in San Francisco, it also is the 2nd largest waste generator. UCSF generates over 2,100 tons of landfill per year. My main role as a Recycling Analyst is to help reduce landfill waste and increase diversion rate so UCSF reaches its Zero Waste Goal by 2020. UCSF is currently at 74% diversion rate and we are steadily climbing. We have to come up with new innovative ways or find new partnerships to help reduce what we dispose of in landfill and divert to recycling/composting/donations. My daily tasks are to oversee daily operations, educating UCSF faculty/student/staff on waste reduction, reviewing finances, data analyst, consulting move-outs/build outs are in program compliance, inspections of waste going out to meet Recology standards, and researching new projects to implement on campus. Since the start of my employment at UCSF, I have helped reduce landfill total by over 1,500 tons annually.I used to work for the City of Oakland on and off for 7 years. My main project is helping coordinate a City wide creek cleanup and recently was promoted to coordinator this past summer. Ever since I've been in involved with the coordination of the cleanup event, we've seen our volunteer numbers increase over 40% to over 1,400 people. I've also worked extensively with the Recycling Division and Watershed Improvement Program. I executed a Bring Your Own Bag Program at Oakland Farmer's Markets and businesses the past 2 summers. My goal is to help better my community and the environment. I am very passionate about the environment and helping make this world a better place to live.Specialties: Government liaison, waste diversion specialist, volunteer coordinator, and program management.
