I work in Dr. Alvinas Neurobiology lab in the biology department of Texas Tech University. The focus of the lab is on chronic unpredictable stress on the NMDA receptor of the CA3 region of the hippocampus. I help perform the chronic unpredictable stress regimen on the mice, followed by a series of behavioral tests. Once all of the testing is complete I dissect the hippocampus region of the brain, and slice in preparation for electrophysiology. The lab is looking at regulation of the NMDA receptor which is less focused on compared to the GABA receptor in the CA3 region of the hippocampus. I am currently working on a project with the myokine Irisin and its ability to reduce the negative effects of acute stress in mice.

I worked with Cell Biology Professor Zhixin Xie where he is helping me merge my bioengineering minor with my cell and molecular biology major. I work on writing different programs in PYTHON to perform tasks on DNA and RNA sequences, including finding frequency, 5' base pair, exact patterns etc.

I work in Dr. Cornwall's Biochemistry lab of the health science center. I primarily work with the animals involved in the lab including both rats and mice. The research of the lab focuses on the reproductive biology; sperm maturation and epididymal function. In mice we are looking at the presence of the CRES gene and it's effect on reproduction. In rats we are looking at the effect of damage to the male reproductive system and whether it will be expressed and passed onto the following generations as an epigenetic change to the gene expression; or an alteration to the genetic code that will be passed down to all of the later generations.

I was an intern in Dr. Jansen's Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics lab. I was exposed to different procedures including but not limited to miniprep, midiprep, PCR, Nanodrop etc. The labs research focuses on structure and function studies of diverse membrane proteins, specifically, ligand-gated ion channels and transporters.

At this summer camp I was put in charge of a group of kids, that would vary in size from week to week. I would create and play different games with the kids and try to make the environment as accepting and encouraging as possible.

I worked as a lab assistant. Some days I would enter data into excel sheets, making presentations or take inventory. And the next I would be creating a chemical formula to do a number of different tests on. Some examples might be viscosity, flow, molecule size, and more. The focus on the lab is to engage in the development and commercialization of minimally-invasive balloon-based drug delivery products for the intervention of atherosclerotic diseases. It offers Targeted Angioplasty Drug Delivery balloon, a stent-free delivery platform of anti-restenotic drugs, which enables controlled and targeted drug delivery, reduces thrombosis risk, and reduces the need to implant permanent devices.
