Led the Molonglo 132kV Transmission Line Replacement Project, involving the replacement of 9km of overhead transmission lines with 132KV cables underground and the removal of above ground transition towers. Managed complex client and contractor relationships, a constantly changing project scope, unclear technical information and weather delays, successfully ensuring that the project met project timelines and budget. Reports: Up to 30 Staff (Site Surveyors, Civil Construction Teams, Contractors, Environmental and Cultural Heritage)* With a significant risk to cable jointers and damage to high voltage cable being installed, developed a solution that minimized risk of injury to the work force and at the same time prevented damage to cables worth in excess of $1.2M. Performance acknowledge as Hazard of the Month Winner. * Collaboratively designed and fabricated a set of ladders with a local engineer, significantly reducing the risk of fall and egress related injuries and improving the efficiency of the worksite. Performance acknowledged with a Values Award Nomination, Find a Better Way. * Secured savings in excess of $10K, and increased the speed on the installation, through the review and adjustment to the cable installation plan. * Rewrote the crew’s work instructions, saving $6K and reducing risk exposure to the team when handling cable drums.

Established a task force, delivered a bespoke fieldworker stretching and coaching program and implemented changes to crossarm materials and handling practices. * Improved the team’s capability in writing Incident Investigations, with new reporting ensuring that actions could be taken to prevent re-occurrence. Organised team training, with training receiving a 95% approval rate. Course is now a standard offering to all HSE staff across the organisation. * Increased HSE KPI performance to 96%, resulting in an HSE bonus payment of up to $217K on the contract. * Led review of the implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems across the national Power Services and Projects business unit, leading to successful recertification to ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001. * Coached staff, eliminated staff clashes and recruited a new HSE Business Partner on the South Morang Terminal Station Upgrade, leading to improvements in the project performance and client approval rates. Leadership on the matter resulted in a Values Award Nomination – Be Accountable Category.

Delivered realistic and practical safety advice and support to local project teams within Zinfra’s Projects and Infrastructure Business Unit. With inconsistent application of business processes and pushback on HSE from field staff, led changes to improve HSE performance across the business unit. * Implemented an effective dust extraction control system at the Loy Yang 500kV Terminal Station project, lowering risk and health hazard to electricians, and avoiding threats of industrial action, or WorkSafe involvement. * Enhanced the AusNet Contract Safety Performance, through implementation of a Client Safety IMS. Reduced hazards across each project and ensured relevant training of HSE staff. * Improved safety eyewear for electricians performing brazing work, including undertaking research, leading a trial, inclusion of specifications in the group’s PPE and updating the project team’s suite of Safe Work Method statements.
