Santon Downhan

I currently work as an Assistant Ecologist at Forestry England covering the East of England district. My main role is to carry out habitat and species monitoring to inform the management of designated sites such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. This surveying focuses on identifying priority habitats and monitoring European protected and priority species. I manage internal and external contracts and volunteers to deliver conservation projects across the district. I also maintain conservation data to verify existing sources and to update data layers such as GIS mapping with the most up-to-date ecological data to inform decision making and planning. In addition, I assist with general administration such as financial planning, report writing and data analysis.

Hatfield

I worked as an Asset Scientist primarily focusing on biodiversity by providing specialist expertise on ecological surveying, habitat management plans and conservation advice. Further to this, I worked in close connection with external contractors to ensure the enhancement of biodiversity is successfully achieved. I also worked on numerous National Environment Programme projects by providing technical support through monitoring of groundwater levels and river flows. This involved varied tasks including report writing, data analysis and water sampling.

Hatfield

I worked as an 'EcoRep'​ within the Environment Team at the University of Hertfordshire. The aim of the role was to promote the work the environment team does to the rest of the university and to engage with specific groups of people (mainly students and staff) to get involved with environmental issues. One of the key awareness and behavioral change initiatives was 'PowerDown' which gets members of the university to promote environmentally actions.

Hatfield

I worked within the Asset Sustainability Team which is part of the Physical Asset Department. My main role was general environmental monitoring of vulnerable points across the company boundary. This was anything from collecting groundwater data from river loggers, checking and emptying rain gauges and gauging rivers to monitor the flow and abstraction levels. The role was varied and was split equally between fieldwork and office-based work.

Orkney Isles

Assisted in collecting field data for an investigation into a long-term population study and the natural enemies of 2 species of moth in the Orkney Islands, Scotland.My role included collecting heather samples from various sites across the isles. This was brought back to sort and to classify moth larvae and their natural enemies.

Stotfold

My main role was to lead and manage an area of staff and operations within the restaurant. Other responsibilities included training staff, maintaining and recording equipment and recording deliveries
