Profile bio

About Daniel Cooper, Ph.D

Currently working as part of Bayberry Clinic in the UK, delivering psycho-educational seminars and facilitating the introduction of neurofeedback techniques and novel technological approaches to aid in long-term support and engagement with new recovery methodologies. My work complements other therapeutic approaches within a mental health and well-being in a residential recovery setting.Currently, I am interested in bridging the conceptual gap between bottom-up neuroscience and top-down psychotherapeutic approaches to understanding and treating mental health difficulties. My academic research has previously focused on exploring the effect of environmental complexity (cognitive, social and exercise) on the structure and function of the brain, and the resultant effects this has on behaviour.Skills developed over the course of my PhD involved gathering and analysing data from a large variety of sources from large-scale data from sequencing projects utilising high-throughput servers to analysing changes in electrical trace data from individual cells within the brain. I’ve also been involved in teaching and outreach events which were also something I've found very rewarding, and have helped me learn to explain concepts to a wide variety of audiences of varying backgrounds. I have also collaborated with a graphic design company to produce 3D renders of various concepts to help explain my work to non-specialist audiences. Please see my eportfolio if you are interested in my past academic research work or my related design work: https://warwick.ac.uk/study/csde/gsp/eportfolio/directory/pg/live/lfulfy/

Listed skills include Teamwork, Data Analysis, Research, Biochemistry, and 26 others.

Over the course of my PhD, I investigated a particular molecular pathway hypothesised to underlie activity-dependent changes occurring within the mammalian hippocampus. Combined electrophysiological, histological, behavioural, transcriptomic and bioinformatic techniques were utilised to investigate the role of MSK1, a nuclear kinase, in transducing external neurotrophic signals and in regulating the response to environmental enrichment.Published thesis available at the University of Warwick WRAP service: http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/143355/
