Research Nurse Rmn
Redwoods Centre, Shrewsbury
I undertook extensive training in order to fulfill the role of Research Nurse, working for the South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, I acquired and developed essential rater skills for use with cognitive assessments to support the existing AD Genetics, MODEM and Masitinib research studies. As part of my role as a Research Nurse, I developed my own existing leadership skills, ensuring that research studies recruit to time and target. I promoted all of the research studies that I have been involved in, by visiting the inpatient wards, local community mental health teams and external agencies to spread the word of the work that is ongoing within the Research Department at The Redwoods Centre. Work such as this has allowed me to assist in developing the dementia research portfolio and I have built upon new and existing links within the clinical teams that have welcomed the work of the research department as a pro-active service with the trust. As a Research Nurse, I was excited and enthusiastic about being involved in a collaboration with the sexual health team, to develop research in this field. I was the lead clinician on the Safetxt study and liaised directly with the study team, in order to develop a robust recruitment strategy going forward so that an optimum number of participants were recruited onto the study to benefit from a safer-sex, text messaging service, which has the ability to directly improve their health. I was committed to building existing links between the sexual health service and the research department, to identify new sexual health research studies that could be undertaken in the future, informing health and treatment for the local population and subsequently reporting nationally. I have regularly met with the healthcare practitioners within the sexual health service in Shropshire to promote the Safetxt study and they in turn were eager to make the trial a success for the trust.
