About Daniel Crous
I am a young, energetic and worldly personality that seeks out and relishes new challenges and experiences. Growing up in Botswana I have always wanted to be involved in the Tourism Industry, on completion of High School I travelled for a year, working in Argentina and London before returning to South Africa to study Hotel Management. I graduated Cum Laude and Chairman of the Student Committee with internships at two top establishments in South Africa, (Camp Jabulani and The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa). I then spent a year working Guest Relations on North Island - a private island in the Seychelles with no holds barred on luxury and guest services. My next challenge took me to Europe where I worked with Contiki Tours as a Tour Manager leading, guiding and organising groups of up to 53 clients on trips of up to 46 days around Europe. In-between Summer seasons in Europe I managed the Food and Beverage Dep. at Abu Camp - a premier lodge in Botswana, and solely managed Camp Ngaga - an ambitious, exciting and remote camp in the Republic of Congo that offered Gorilla tracking experiences. After my last season of work with Contiki I spent 6 months travelling South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Currently I am part of a management team at Mombo, a luxury lodge in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. I have a unique range of experiences and believe each one has provided me with a different yet related set of skills. I have never been one for large, commercial properties but am inclined more to small, unique establishments that are a destination in themselves and that offer so much more than a conventional hotel. Completely dedicated to my passion and this industry I believe I have a lot to offer.
Listed skills include Tourism, Hotel Management, Food And Beverage, Customer Service, and 13 others.

Daniel Crous work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Safari Specialist & Wildlife Photographer
CurrentI am a Wildlife Photographer and specialist Photographic Guide in Africa. My agency is able to book and organise safaris and expeditions anywhere in Africa. Generally these safaris and expeditions are photographically centred, however I also book non photographic trips. I am available as a Private or Photographic guide to accompany the expedition and create an even more unique experience. I am also a Film Facilitator in Botswana - organising permits, logistics etc. for any Film Crew looking to operate in Botswana.
Relief Camp/F&B Manager
CurrentAs I have varied experience working in different settings for Wilderness Safaris I am able to take over different roles according to where I am needed. As a Relief Manager I move between managing Little Mombo, Food and Beverage, and being part of the Guest Relations/Admin team. This requires me to be versatile and able to keep the department under my care running smoothly, this includes all the administration, staff management and any other duties the relevant manager would normally undertake.
General Manager
As a project I took on the setting up and opening of a new, luxury safari lodge in Botswana - Qorokwe. I joined the project team 5 months before opening and brought in most of the hospitality functions: hiring and training of 50 staff members, designing the back of house and kitchen areas, setting up managerial, staff and guest procedures, and development of the guest offering. I then opened the camp as the General Manager to implement all of the above. As planned, within a year of opening I trained in a replacement General Manager and stood down from my position.
Tour Manager
After completing a rigorous selection and 66 day training course I qualified to Manage and Guide Tours around Europe for Contiki Holidays. The Tours ranged from 7 days to 46 days covering all countries in continental Europe and Egypt. Up to 53 clients fell solely under my responsibility during each tour where I would provide them with bookings and organisation of various activities and accommodation, in depth historical and cultural information including City and Walking tours, the handling of Visas, travel paperwork and any issues that came up along the way. Immense experience gained both in dealing with people and working in Europe's multi faceted cultures, as well as a great knowledge of European history and culture.
Relief General Manager
2 months spent relieving in a General Manager role of a remote Camp in the Central African Rainforest. Responsible for managing all aspects of a 12 bed camp in the forest that operated Gorilla Tracking experiences. Managed alone with 12 French speaking staff and aiming to provide a high level of comfort and service in a very difficult environment. A large amount of experience gained in working with rural people, in extreme remoteness in a very delicate area and with ultimate responsibility.
Guest Relations
For a year I lived on a beautiful Private Island in the Seychelles that catered to the most elite of travellers. On the entire Island there are 11 Villas each with their own butler and chef if need be. The concept of the property was what set it apart from other resorts - "any menu, any venue, any time" - this applied to food, activities and anything else a guest could dream up. Working in Guest Relations I had incredible experience in dealing with high powered guests and celebrities and bringing them down to a relaxed Island life attitude. On the conservation front the island had a lot to offer as well, the aim is to turn the ecological clock of the island back 200 years by eradicating invasive bird species and rats. Turtle and turtle nest rehabilitation is also in full swing.
