The company is responsible for storing, restoring and maintaining the British film and television archive. This includes the physical media as well as its metadata. In this company, my main duty was to analyze and develop a new version of their Oracle database systems which were previously designed and developed for online analytical processing. My accountabilities involved not just the design of new standards and templates, but also be hands on with Oracle development tools like Oracle Forms/Reports (10g) and Designer. In order to be successful in this position, a very good understanding about the database side of the system was necessary. The database design had to be changed in order to cope with the extra overhead imposed by the online transaction processing. In this company, I have participated in the entire ERP development lifecycle when we created a new version of our existing ERP system using Oracle technology. This was done in order to replace the previous version which was based on an obsolete technology. My roles included system analysis, software development and Database administration. My responsibilities included providing support to external consultancies, creating/maintaining standards and templates, developing software to high levels of complexity, influencing technical approach, creating test scenarios, delivering the software as well as providing services like database Installation, backup/recovery, high availability solutions and performance tuning efforts. I was completely responsible for supporting 15 contracts of database administration. During this period, I have been exposed to many ERP business areas which have given me a wide understanding about commercial and industrial sectors from an IT point of view. In this position, I was responsible for creating and maintaining an entire module of statistics/planning as well as providing support to supplies module, which was developed by a third party company. I have also provided first line support to the users of the application on either the modules created by me or by others. In this position, I gained a lot of knowledge and exposure about medicine and distribution companies/businesses. The technology used in this company was basically Oracle Designer, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports and PL/SQL.During this period, I also started specializing into the database administration area.
